How Has Industry Consolidation Changed the Way Americans Shop? - ProMarket In new research, Dominic Smith and Sergio Ocampo show that retail concentration has increased in most markets across the United States, with the expansion of large retail chains driving the trend toward a more concentrated retail landscape. Their findings are based on new product-level census data for all U.S. retailers. They explain the implications of this increased concentration for the everyday shopping experience of clothing, electronics, groceries, and much more.

We’re trying the 2yo on a trundle that pulls out from the 4yo’s bed. It’s 10 pm and I’m sending this while lying on their floor trying to get them to sleep so maybe not the best idea, but the 2yo has started refusing to sleep alone so we are desperate.

The best idea we have right now is to use the Pierce and Schott HS-NAICS as a backup way of identifying similar products.

Yes, I know this was a bad example because chapter 75 is nickel and articles thereof but it seems like some recent job market paper probably did this.

Has anyone created a similarity index for HS codes? For example nickel wire and nickel scrap are under different HS4s but a similarity score on description would say they are similar. #econsky

Is there any way to know if this could be due to consumers substituting to carry out instead of eat in? It seems like things like Toast have made carry out much less labor intensive since 2020 and maybe carry out accounts for more spending on fits away from home now?

I’ve been wondering this as well. I have a collection of data that would be convenient to have in an SQL db, but do I really want to be my own db admin?

I’m very glad this is continuing. I miss the in-person race, but it must have been incredibly difficult to plan a race in a different city each year.
