18 people went to jail in Sacramento County for being homeless, records show Police have ramped up “unlawful camping” arrests since a Supreme Court ruling last year.

What an absolute shame. Pulling people into the carceral system for being poor or sick is harmful, and a complete waste of public resources.

Also yourself this: why would certain officers keep being "required" for overtime? There are others in those teams (and hundreds of officers department-wide) who could have filled in from time to time, and PD makes decisions about how to staff teams - not the Council.

He doesn't have clearance or authority to do what he's doing. This is insane.

In the end, no one public official should have this much authority without public oversight. Period.

Let's start the conversation on how to fix this before the next person takes the job.

I'm still anti Strong Mayor, bc I don't think politicians should run bureaucracy (case in point: Trump)

But that doesn't mean there shouldn't be serious consideration to charter changes

For one example, subject the City Manager to the Brown Act, forcing updates to Council to be given in open mtgs

I requested several changes, including a req that the City Manager come to Council if discretionary funding approvals for any one entity exceeded $250k/year.

Staff said they didn't have systems to do that 🤯

What a week for Sacramento. After butting heads with our City Manager in my first six months to escalating tension, retaliation and outright insubordination near the end of my term - enough was enough. Really proud of my former colleagues for making this move 🙌🏽
