For someone like me who LOVES roleplaying games but only gets the chance to play in them weekly, this was really a great con. I loved the variety of the games I played!

Like it's really important as a GM to get to be a player to remain in touch with their needs. And playing new systems is so fun!!

Hana Academy

This was a low energy game, everyone was exhausted!

It's a FATE system game skinned to be like kinda Sailor Moon but with flowers. You're students with special powers and an associated flower and you protect the school. It's a great premise. I will be keeping an eye out for it.

At one point my party came over to my character's house for an uninvited pool party. I got flustered by my mom and to clear the status decided to retreat to my room to read comfort fanfics. While everyone was throwing a party. At my house.

Also she wrote a 100k word BK/DK fanfic haha

Thirsty Sword Lesbians

ughhhhhhhhh this was probably the best RPG session I've ever played in. Everyone was super cool and on the same page. We were trying to get prom dates and I played a yaoi fanfic-obsessed failgirl with overbearing parents.

This game kicks ass and I want to play it again.

Basically if you succeed on a check and exceed the check requirement, there's a menu of extra bonus effects you can get (including giving the table bonus banked success points for future rolls).

It felt really nice to "go shopping" when you hit it out of the park.

I think it's worth checking out!

Curseborne

It's made by ex-WOD devs and it feels very much like a WOD game in terms of tone/setting. That being said, my character sheet was 8 pages lmao

I liked what I played but I HIGHLY doubt I was playing optimally because of how many abilities I had. I LOVED the bonus success mechanic!

Fallen London

I LOVE this setting! I was worried the prose or the weirdness would make this frustrating but it translates perfectly.

That being said, the system isn't great. The chase rules heavily favor the NPC and I don't like the trained skill system. I'd probably change a fair bit TBH.

I played Fallen London, Curseborne, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, and Hana Academy

I had fun in all of them! Like, seriously, all of the players were dope in each game and the GMs were great. About 80% of the players were GMs themselves lol! GenCon is where GMs go to be players I guess

I still want to play Shadow Scar! I played in a demo game last year where a dude ran off solo and got locked in 1v1 combat for like 30 minutes while everyone else at the table sat around doing nothing (BAD DEMO GM, DON'T ALLOW THAT DEMO GM)

It seems like it could be fun if run better.

I want to talk a bit about the games I played at GenCon!

I signed up for 5 TTRPGs over the weekend and played in 4 of them. I skipped the 8pm saturday 4-hour Shadow Scar game because... yeah that shit wasn't happening. I also would rather hang with the buddies I traveled with (it was a good choice)

Something just tickles me to no end about that kind of scene!

Also I just want Thom to be happy and successful ;_;
