Fun fact: Irrawaddies are known to spit water out of their mouths, likely to expel water taken in while hunting. However, this makes me picture Silviana doing a huge spit take when she's told what Elaida did and then dashing off to the Hall.

The really fun bit for the comparison comes from the folk tales regarding Irrawaddies! Laos and Cambodia have stories of Irrawaddies protecting people from CROCODILES--notably larger than these smol dolphins.

Irrawaddies are similar in that want--they are very slow swimmers and will often retreat from boats or other cetaceans, just wanting to do their own thing and not be bothered.

Irrawaddies (idk if this is the plural, but it's fun) are SMOL and communicate in clicks, creaks, and buzzes. This easily fits Silviana's description. While Silviana is very stern, she is also very fair. Irrawaddies look very playful, but they're actually quite shy.

I had a difficult time deciding between a couple of species, but I decided on the Irrawaddy dolphin! Yes, it looks very cute, and not what you would picture for Silviana, but I think some of its behaviors fit her arc in the series.

She is also known to give rewards where they are warranted. She is scary to approach, but you feel like you've won at life if she rewards you. Based on this description, the whale I have chosen might seem a little counterintuitive, but stay with me, folks.

Silviana is one of those characters where you have the strict old lady who knows the rules and will punish you in a way that will make certain you learn your lesson when breaking them. However, she is also very fair in taking age and experience into account with her punishments.
