Palantir CEO Makes Shocking Confession on Disrupting Democratic Power They’re saying the quiet part out loud now.

"Palantir CEO Alex Karp says his AI technology will lessen the power of “highly educated, often female voters, who vote mostly Democrat” while increasing the power of working-class men."

Just saying it right out loud now.

AI toys for young children need tighter rules, researchers warn In first study of its kind, Cambridge researchers found AI toys could misread some children's emotions.

Oh my god people are giving small children AI toys and expecting them to learn communication from them??? THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT HUMANS SHOULD BE DOING THIS IS NOT AI'S JOB WHAT THE HELL www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The goal here is that poor children will be deliberately raised wrong, deskilled from square one.

The exact same goal that animated making it a crime for a slave to be literate, the same goal that animated banning women from education, etc.

It's the modern version of raising a serf.

a while back a guy I knew was trying to justify having gone to Curtis Yarvin's wedding, and his girlfriend said "Don't you find him thrillingly contrarian' and I said 'That's how boring people excuse being racist'

Florida Senate passes own version of anti-voting SAVE America Act The Florida bill is an attempt to impose the national SAVE America Act's severe voting restrictions on a state level.

If this is enacted, Florida will be sued.

"Florida lawmakers are poised to approve sweeping new restrictions that would require voters to prove their citizenship status, as well as remove student ID as an acceptable form of voter identification." www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

A tumblr post from orteil42 (cookie clicker dev) that says: am i losing the drive to create things for an increasingly alien and hostile world whose mounting taste for fascism feels like a cold metal vise around my skull or am i just lazy and unmedicated and looking for excuses

Sorry for the lack of activity it’s literally just this

JUST IN: Judge Shah in Illinois has blocked the Trump admin from yanking $600m in public health funds from four blue states, saying it appeared to be a “contrived” and illegal effort to punish them for sanctuary immigration policies storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

A striking feature of Trump and his team is: they somehow imagine a world in which they are the only actors, only ones with power, and whether it's Tehran or Minneapolis are surprised when it turns out others do. There are many kinds of power and many nations with power.

Oh that's easy: evolve past your humanity, Dr. Manhattan style, then go off and start your own sentient life.

I mean that's part of what Free Will™ gets you. You did something I don't like? Murder. You've got something I want? Theft. Sometimes also murder.

But hey, I guess we've gotten better over time since we haven't come close to voluntarily killing 25% of the human population since then right?

Before we even get to all those tales, how was the initial incest problem solved? Because if you start with only 2 humans and from that spawn all of humanity, shouldn't we have gotten to horrible, debilitating genetic deformities from all the incest and genetic degradation from birthing in old age?

Also there was the Tower of Babbel which just seemed petty. "Y'all working too well together on something I don't want you to do, Alakazam! Different languages!" Couldn't you have just...like...made it more apparent that this wasn't a project humans should be engaging in? Rather than destroy comms?

The flood is Noah's thing. Sodom and Gomorrah was a different situation that was bad enough to smite a city, but preserve the rest of the world.

From my understanding, the administrators/laborers in Hell are the angels that followed Lucifer in his rebellion. Why they would all be kind of on board with the eternal damnation thing despite being created to be great singers and execute God's will has never made sense.

Free Will™ is this weird limiter on God/culpability release that seems to completely bypass the whole omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent part of God's existence. God made it all except the stuff you and your Free Will™ went and fucked up, being all Free and Willing. God could fix it, but FREE WILL!

Eternal salvation is for humans, not for angels for whatever reason. Also, where did Lucifer get the authority and power from to create Hell if it didn't already exist as a place for him to set up shop? Then what, he set up a deal with God to only take the "bad" souls after instigating CIVIL WAR?!

Exactly how hard does a being that's billed as "omnipotent" need to work, though?

Dunno why I never thought about this. I've always come from the perspective of not answering the prayers of enslaved Africans being abused for centuries in the triangular slave trade, but this also hits.

For sure. Looking back, doesn't catholicism just seem like a cult that got really out of hand? With the strict hierarchy, the funneling of money from people of the church toward actions having nothing to do with them (like child abuse lawsuits), the strict guidelines those at the top don't follow...

Trying not to fall asleep, trying not to fidget, trying to remember whatever the fuck I was supposed to do at various parts of the ceremony. A great job for a teenager with thoughts of everything else in their head lol

Also, credit where it's due, nothing inspires atheism quite like a close examination of Roman Catholicism throughout history. My oh my the hypocrisies.

So, after being aggressively atheist for a while, I re-evaluated my "spiritual journey" & decided that my life wouldn't be worse off if I just removed myself from it entirely. So if I had a label now it'd be "apathetic agnostic": I don't know if God exists and I don't really care either way.

For all God's supposed goodness & divine empathy, God's actions (the only measure by which you can define any being really) show that God solves problems OF HIS OWN CREATION with mass violence, deception, confusion, and unending punishment.

Even if God does exist, why would I want to worship that?

How is it that everything you create and give Free Will™ turns to wickedness, whether it's the one angel with Free Will™ or the vast majority of humans?

How is it that two humans fuck up one time a decision for which they didn't fully understand the consequences, and you curse the species forever?

Remembering the biblical stories I was raised on made God seem super sus! Like how are you infallible but after flooding the world to rid it of its wickedness you later declare "damn that was a bit much. I won't do that again".

And then rain fire on Sodom & Gomorrah for *their* wickedness?!

My mom's deal with me and my brother was that once we were confirmed we were allows to choose what we wanted to believe in. Once I got confirmed, I chose atheism. I still attended church when mom requested it because it's mom. But otherwise nah. After that, philosophy got really interesting lol

The first time I remember actually thinking "oh this is some bullshit" was when I realized that despite being a generally Good Guy™, by the rules of Catholicism my dad would go to Hell when he dies because he didn't believe in God. From then, I had an eye out for more bullshit.

I fully didn't care about Sunday school. Sitting in the congregation having to pay attention to the service was boring, and being an altar server was excruciatingly boring. So just as a mismatch for my temperament, the seed was already planted for me to never want to be in a church again.
