The boundaries of Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve and two excerpts from the state law establishing the aquatic preserve program. The preserve extends to the middle of Tampa Bay; effectively all of the new channel will be dredged in the preserve.

Scaled ships on the developer' s proposed map. It's a mystery how they plan to arrange the berths but it's obvious that an immense area will be dredged or filled. Paradise Island and Skeet Key will cease to exist.

I matched the scale and overlayed the Google view of Port Canaveral with four cruise ships at dock. Note the size of the basin required to be dredged at full channel depth to maneuver ships to the dock.

The proposed cruise ship port in Manatee County is a terrible idea and is getting a lot of deserved pushback. IMO one thing lacking in coverage is imagery showing the scale of dredging and habitat destruction required to dock 1,000 foot long ships in this aquatic sanctuary. Here's a few.

Here's map that the @tampabaytimes.bsky.social obtained through a public records request from Manatee County and a Google view of the same area. Note that the developer owns the land but the water is inside Terra Ceia Aquatic Preserve.
By weakening the vessel speed rules there will be more vessel strikes, more whales will be killed, like the MSC Meraviglia cruise ship vessel strike in May 2024 when it arrived in New York with a dead sei whale on its bow.

…at the end of the day, the watermark is clear: Mega-ships that barrel into quaint harbors primarily serve the cruise lines that run them, seldom the communities that host them. Thousands of "hit-and-run" tourists disembark for a few hours, strain the infrastructure, and spend very little ashore.

Sadly, a recidivist corporate felon with a history of lying and misrepresenting the truth of the operation of its cruise ships cannot possibly tell the truth.
Carnival Cruise Line failed to report any physical assaults for the last quarter. Carnival previously had 44 out of 74 physical assaults with serious personal injuries since 2022.
