You're probably remembering right. In the earlier games especially, raising attack power is much more powerful than having a chance to maybe confuse or daze an enemy. Effect attack badges aren't really that good, especially if you don't know the chances each enemy has for receiving each status.
Just kinda blows knowing how many items and badges I never interact with when I play these games again because they aren't that good or take too much time to obtain. If the next Paper Mario game has item and badge variety again, I hope they're actually cool and unique, especially the items.
Then there are all of the badges TTYD has like Ice Smash, Head Rattle, Soft Stomp, etc. that do regular damage and miiiight inflict a status. Why not give that to items, like healing and then giving Mario for 3 turns a chance to inflict Dizzy or Freeze on an enemy when attacking?
SPM is especially bad about this with 96 recipes but more limited gameplay, so a LOT of them just heal about 15 HP and cure poison. HP regeneration is also pretty bad in early Paper Mario games, healing a miniscule amount of HP every few turns/seconds.
Most recipes tend to heal some amount of HP, maybe some amount of FP, probably cure poison, and/or boost ATK or DEF. Or if they have a unique effect, it's not that great (like healing 15 HP having a chance to freeze you when using). They sorta feel like they just exist to fill out a recipe book.
Paper Mario's so bad at item variety and badge variety could've used some work too
The first three games had such a huge variety of base items with different effects and then an even bigger variety once the cooking system is used, but... a lot of them just kinda suck or aren't that different?
Strong Bonds can do wonders, especially if you're both prone to things like shapeshifting. Take @yoshothecalagon.bsky.social and @callmeluna.com for example (their new name is Clair by the way)!
Say hi to Clair! Got a feeling they'll be around for a while <3
I'm happy we have each other
I LOVE IT TOO WHY'S IT GOTTA LAST ONLY 2 AND A HALF HOURS π₯Ίπππππ
I hope the next Paper Mario has a long final chapter again instead of a short one.
The long final chapter is actually something I really love about the first three Paper Mario games because it feels like every big plot point is being wrapped up with a neat little bow. It's like a big gauntlet of final challenges and story endings, especially in The Thousand-Year Door's case!
Origami Castle...
God, I wish modern Paper Mario's final chapters were longer. Everything from the start of the airship sequence to the end of the game is like half the length of The Origami King's other chapters, and especially with how good Origami Castle's music is, I wish I could hear it longer.
pipi and pipi yochi ?
For a long time now, mobile Bluesky has had this weird issue (at least on my phone) where if I start to refresh but cancel, everything on screen becomes uninteractable aside from scrolling
Like I don't do it on purpose, I'll just be scrolling up, then refresh wheel pops up for a sec. Bam. Can't like
Ironically I was actually looking for a spray but we ended up walking out with this little container of wipes instead, they're like sanitizing wipes but way more gentle and not super wet since they're designed to be used on screens
So this whole time, it was probably leftover powder that was on my hands when I would draw on break at my job. Makes sense why water wasn't working.
...I assumed that maybe there were just a lot of scratches in the screen now (which to be fair, there are some actual scratches), but turns out that wasn't the case. All these times I've tried cleaning with water frequently and then today I used a proper cleaning solution and... it's smooth again.
Since about autumn last year (back when I still worked at Smoothie King), I've been feeling like there was some sort of crust on my drawing tablet, to the point it would create resistance against the stylus and make drawing less fun. I tried cleaning with water a few times and it didn't work, so...
Remember to clean your screen with a proper screen cleaning solution and not just water, especially if you use it often for precise activities like drawing!

Me too, honestly
Yeah, stuff like knowing laws, societal norms, history, etc
Thank you!
I've officially sort of kinda been told a yesser yes than the yes I got three days before yesterday!
Basically, we go back to get the official slip in about three weeks but I can stay for the next three years or so and need to have completed a language and integration course before then!
The bumpy cloud cheeks even almost resemble the spines on the back of a Yoshi's head
Wonder if it's a new friend or a new fake Yoshi enemy(?)
Yoshi game looks really cute, I'm especially a fan of the art style now
Also interesting that they went with Yoshi's pre-Wonder voice. Wonder if that was deliberate or if the game's just been in development for that long
