EASTERN CICADA KILLER Will it sting me? This wasp looks scary, but it rarely bothers people. Instead, this insect is searching for summer cicadas (locust) to feed her babies. The female has a stinger for paralyzing the cicada, which she then drags to her nest, a deep hole in the ground. The male doesn't have a stinger. His job is to "act aggressive" and guard the nest. So, if you think you are being chased, simply stop and enjoy his antics.
