That was my kneejerk, as well, but it feels different.

People can very easily choose not to shop at Walmart for moral reasons.

But with these processors, it's nigh-impossible to make meaningful spending decisions on moral grounds. We use them because we have to. So why pander?

I really don't like conspiracy nonsense, but the whole thing reeks of orchestration. It's too well-organized, it's too conveniently-scapegoated, and unless I'm woefully misinformed (very possible) it just doesn't make business sense.

What I don't understand is why the payment processors play along. What's THEIR play? Why are THEY bending the knee?

Why would they sacrifice bottom line for morality? That has never been their game.
