The Bald-faced Hornet is actually a wasp and distinguished from other yellow-jackets by its black and white colouring. They are known to be aggressive and will sting repeatedly when their space is threatened. Had I known that I was risking life and limb to capture the image of this large wasp, I'm not sure I would have gotten so close, but hopefully, it was worth it! 😉
