my takeaways reading about a bunch of horrific shit in history is that the things you want are:
-to have hiding spaces
-to not let the state disarm you (small arms genuinely matter even when artillery exists)
-to maintain access the means of communication
-to build diplomatic ties with outsiders
build these. i'm not joking. the more I read history the more I read how often hiding spaces save lives.
I feel like this sums up the relationship between police and the public.
