Sea Fan Cowl pattern by Veronica Ory Organic forms grow and recede, swirling around the circumference of this cowl. A picot cast on and bind off adds interest and keeps the edges stretchy. Instructions for the Sea Fan pattern are provided in written directions as well as a choice of two charts: a traditional brioche chart on a grid, and a StitchMaps chart, a more visual representation of the knitted fabric. Yarn Miss Babs Yummy 2-Ply 100% Superwash Merino Wool; 400 yds/3.9 oz (365 m/110 g) skeins 1 skein in each of 2 colors, shown in Spring Green (light color) and Beanstalk (dark color) Or approximately 250 yards/230 meters of fingering weight yarn in each of two colors - you will need slightly more of the light color than the dark color. Finished Measurements Circumference: 28”/70 cm Height: 8”/20 cm, adjustable Needles US 4 [3.5 mm] circular needle, 24”/60 cm long, or size to obtain gauge Gauge Blocked: 25 stitches and 22 brioche rounds = 4”/10 cm in brioche pattern. Gauge is difficult to measure on this project because it is strongly biased. Gauge is not crucial for this project but will affect yardage and finished size if different from above. I find two-color brioche in the round to be soothing and pleasant to knit.

Handknit two color brioche stitch cowl in a swirly pattern in progress. The colors are a soft warm pink and reddish brown.

If it's time for a little brioche knitting challenge, I suggest the Sea Fan Cowl.

Organic forms swirl around the circumference of this cowl, while a picot cast on and bind off adds interest and elasticity. It's knit in two shades of fingering weight yarn and I have another one started just for me!

The weather is starting to turn. If you have some DK weight yarn, you can knit the Slackline Mitts!

The pattern is stretchy, quick and simple to work, and gives great dynamic results in both variegated and solid yarns.

Thanks! It’s worked from the bottom up, so you just work more rows before starting the v neck shaping (and you’ll need more yarn of course).
