The dissonance of living a relatively charmed existence while two million people die thanks to bombs my country made and the cruelty of a country my country loves more than anyone else has become untenable

I can’t do this shit anymore dude. I have inured myself to a lot of cruelty over the years but this is the worst fucking thing I’ve ever witnessed. And it feels like so many people are cool with it to the point that they get irritated when folks post updates or fundraisers.

I'm gonna just go ahead and say that witnessing a livestreamed genocide that now involves people from various mediterranean and middle-eastern countries throwing rice & flour into the sea in plastic bottles at strategic times just so Gazans can get *something* to eat has genuinely destroyed my mind

EPA eliminates research and development office, begins layoffs
The Environmental Protection Agency said Friday it is eliminating its research and development arm and reducing agency staff by thousands of employees.
The EPA has eliminated its research division, which for decades has provided the science behind regulations on clean air, clean water, and toxic chemicals.
The US can afford to monitor, research, and regulate the impacts of industries on human and environmental health. We are just choosing not to.

As the nations lag on climate action, cities across the world step up
A new report documents how local communities are becoming more livable and sustainable.
Ten years after the Paris Agreement, nations are still falling short of their commitments to reduce emissions and mitigate climate change.
More than that, they haven’t shown enough follow-through on the goals they set. Instead, it’s been cities and local governments that have taken the lead.

Your Medicaid is cut. Your health insurance is not safe. Your tips are still taxed. You pay the tariffs. There’s no trade deals. No wars have ended. Gas isn’t $2. Eggs aren’t cheaper. There isn’t $10 trillion in investment. The Epstein files are buried.
It’s. All. Lies.
All the time.

Categorizing individuals based on perceived severity may influence the allocation of resources and support services.
We need research that helps build understanding, not reinforce hierarchies of functioning that often do more harm than good.

If someone with anxiety is calm in public but suffering internally, would we call it “mild”? If someone panics when overwhelmed, is that a “behavioral problem” or a valid reaction? This framing ignores the person and centers outside discomfort. Autism deserves better.

The term “behavioral problems” pathologizes what may be a valid response to inaccessible/hostile environments. “Severity” flattens autistic experience into “how bad is it” (how noticeable/inconvenient someone's behavior is to others) rather than acknowledging complexity or individual context.

While I agree the DSM-V doesn't fully capture autism, we don't need this framing of subgroups based on “symptom severity” & “behavioral problems.” Subgrouping this way might help researchers categorize data, but it doesn’t help autistic people get support that respects our needs or agency. 🧵

This is a beautifully coded analogy for the issue with “person with Autism” vs “Autistic person”
An Autistic person isn’t a person with a discreet chunk of “Autism” that can be amputated from us … leaving an intact non-Autistic person.
We are fundamentally *Autistic* through and through
