Curbing Antibiotic Resistance Through Off-Target Antibiotic Removal
To address the growing antimicrobial resistance problem, scientists have been searching nature in attempts to find new classes of antibiotics, optimizing existing ones, or designing new antimicrobiβ¦
Antibiotics that make their way into other places beyond infection sites can drive #AntimicrobialResistance. In my new article for #TheMicrobialMenagerie, I dive into how eliminating these "off target" antibiotics can help reduce #AntimicrobialResistance.

Major cities as well will be affected. Greater Boston, for instance, has about 75K international students, ~1.5% of pop. They are on average wealthier & spend more discretionary income than U.S. citizen students. That's a big subsidiary economic hit right there.

It's important to note here that we're not just talking about faculty & university staff. 100s of U.S. colleges are in towns or small cities where they form the major industry & lifeblood of the community. Loss of students -> loss of rent $, restaurant $, bars, bookstores, gaming stores...
