Hákarl - Wikipedia

The “Preparation” section in its Wiki entry sounds like a Dateline episode:

“gutting and beheading…placing it in a shallow hole dug in gravelly sand, with the cleaned cavity resting on a small mound of sand. [S]tones are placed on top of the sand in order to press the fluids out of the body...” 🤢

Mmmm, fermented shark. Kill the taste with a Bing’s cannoli and a water ice—thanks for my new addictions, BTW—it might not be too bad?

ALT: Text exchange: “| *am* going to see an Icelandic pianist in a couple weeks (Vikingur Olafsson, who's the hot ticket these days).
Does that count?”
“Almost - is this him?”
Picture of beagle at piano keyboard

I mention the recital + Icelandic pianist coincidence.
Dr. Progenydóttir, good scientist, synthesizes data.
Her conclusion: “…is this him?”

“Eh, not quite. Needs glasses...”
“Even if I didn't know this man was Icelandic, that's what my first guess would be (followed by Portland Oregon)”

Not quite.

Picture of gold & white dog, labeled Icelandic sheepdog.

My daughter (“That’s Dr. Progenydóttir to you”) thinks I need a dog.
So she sends an Icelandic sheepdog pic, with CV:
• smart
• eager to please
• < 30lbs

She has no idea I have a ticket to see Icelandic pianist
Víkingur Ólafsson.

This becomes relevant.

😆 Yeah, but his were not saying, “There’s ice cream in the freezer. It has milk. It has eggs. In a different life, it would’ve been scrambled eggs. So it *could* be breakfast…let’s find out!”

Ooh, I’m totally going with your first impression of witch hazel. One of those nice between-seasons surprises to find hiking in the woods.

Bach - Passacaglia in C minor BWV 582 - Smits | Netherlands Bach Society YouTube video by Netherlands Bach Society

It’s Friday the 13th.
For anyone leaning into the superstition that it’s unlucky—my counterpoint counterargument:

🎵
The bass line repeats 32 more times.
The voices will work it out.*
Counterpoint says everything will resolve…eventually.

*Not the ones in your head.

G’nite, peeps.
Needed something to soothe tough and prickly nerves wandering farther than any explanation should have to follow.
Hello, stylus luxurians—richly expressive, dramatic turns, emotional sighs. Oh, and the music has those too…

Happy Blursday—the day when you’re not exactly sure *what* day it is.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Today’s a Thursday that feels like it should be a Friday, but my mood is still in last Saturday even tho I’m starting the day catching up from Monday.

☕️ Need more coffee.

Oh, you had me at the mention of that Haydn trio—and that wild 18th-c proto-walking bass outlining the harmony. Even in a slower movement, Haydn just couldn’t resist shaking things up. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like a great program, and I enjoyed your review!

That would’ve been a nice add to the video, I agree.
I listened to his father Rolf’s lute performances for years—so was intrigued to find out what his son did with a VdaG. Not disappointed—apple definitely didn’t fall far from the tree!!
