The difference here is that most of the time camrips & the like are relegated to where the entire mass public, especially those who don’t know how to torrent, can’t see them.
This time it was all over Twitter. It was impossible not to see. That’s why I called this the “1st” time this has happened.

Spreading something to torrent sites is very different to mass spreading of content on somewhere so public like Twitter of all places. I don’t recall hearing about a reaction quite like this from the JP side either, so not sure it’s comparable. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Anyway, my point still stands.

It’s a massive shame because Japanese people simply follow the rules as told, but non-Japanese tend not to care, so it’s bad eggs like this who make us all look like the bad guys. People like that shouldn’t be allowed into such events at all. This stuff is a privilege, not a right, after all.

Or anything else in the future.
Imo it’s a small win for fans, but an overall loss because companies are gonna look at this & not want to risk it again, so events are likely gonna be more strict and limiting from here on, so it’s a situation where a few loud idiots are ruining it for everyone else.

Foreign fans using this as a gotcha against them are just feeding into anti-foreigner sentiment in Japan and making us, especially those of us who try to live here & follow the rules, look bad. If this can happen to Evangelion, what’s to say ppl won’t try for the Ghibli Museum/Park exclusive shorts?

It may have been wiser for them to just ignore it, but I guess it got too out of hand for their taste. It’s “good” for fans to see it, but the circumstances are anything but.

On the other hand, khara handled this terribly, and lacked the proper understanding of Twitter’s DMCA takedown rules enough to accidentally leak the actual material, forcing their hand to release a short that was never meant to leave a specific event.

It’s also going to deter companies from making future events foreigner friendly out of fear that they will continue this bad behavior, something that has been completely unheard of in Japan until now, at least not on a scale like this.

There has never been a situation like this in Japan until now, and it’s only going to fuel more and more hate by the already xenophobic right in Japan against foreigners.

However, it’s the first time where multiple people (mostly foreigners) have not only actively ignored that sacred rule of not filming the events, but actively chose to go even further and *distribute* the illegally recorded material.

My take on the Evangelion short film leak:
It’s a complicated situation. On the 1 hand, photos and filming of events like this is often strictly prohibited at all by the organizers. It’s not just khara being a butt, it’s almost always the case for any Japanese events like this. It’s a normal policy.

Marugame Udon is having a collaboration with Dragon Ball Z, so naturally I went for the 1st round! Got the Senzu-Style Tempura and the Dragon Ball Udonuts, along with my bowl of noodles not pictured here lol. We received a number of coupons featuring art from the show, as well as a random sticker!

Unrelated but we were wondering if we could attend a few days at the Cannes Film Festival since it’s being held while we’re around. But, while I can likely get accredited based on my job, my wife certainly can’t, real bummer. Oh well, gives us time to explore so much of the region while we’re there!

I especially rooted for one couple who ended up getting together. I was ecstatic, and even got teary eyed (which my wife always makes fun of me for) & if they’re still together, wish them the best.

The show was pretty well done too. The heightened tension of never knowing whether somebody got your memo to meet, or was unavailable due to prior engagements, was a concept we simply have forgotten in our regular lives. You really end up leaving a lot up to fate, which was a strong theme throughout

We’re going to Nice in May and bc of that, decided to check out Offline Love (JP dating show where 10 singles must traverse the south of France w/o the use of phones/wearable tech).
My God, it seems like every inch of that area of France is just gorgeous. I can’t wait to see it with our own eyes.

Dunno if this also applies to the rest of the show, but wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case
