Four of the Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2024 were on the list due to the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ characters or themes.

2024 was a pretty intense year for book banning. With 2,452 unique titles challenged over 821 attempts, last year ranks in the top three of most-challenged books since the ALA started tracking book banning stats in 1990.

Honoring our shared history will keep us connected to each other and to our queer ancestors. There is queer history in every culture, on every continent, among all peoples.

October is our month to remember, reflect, and celebrate the history of the queer community. Queer people have been part of the fabric of humanity and culture since the dawn of time. We have always existed and we always will.
