The 2012 GQ profile that describes how deeply the hypersexualization following his iconic ‘Untitled (How Does It Feel)’ video affected him as an artist & human is a must read. An important look at race, gender, labor, entertainment, the body

If you’ve ever eaten or had a drink at my house, you’ve heard D’Angelo. If you have ridden in my car, you’ve heard D’Angelo.
RIP to a true legend and one of my favorite artists of all time. 💔

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

I like to think that the generations to come, like my great-great-great-grandchildren, will discover me in some book or family story. I won’t know the details. But when they do learn about me, they’ll know I spoke and wrote and loved and that I was never afraid. That I always professed that the role of the poet is to give people the language to speak to each other in times of darkness.

George was just trying to get to work.
ICE pepper-sprayed him, dragged him from his car, locked him in a detention center, and placed him on suicide watch. He even missed his young daughter’s birthday in the process.
This man is a veteran and American citizen. Don't look away.

Jeremy Frey
Balancing tradition with innovation in technically precise and visually stunning woven artworks.
So thrilled to see the incredible Passamaquoddy basket maker Jeremy Frey get awarded a MacArthur. His art, born of centuries of Wabanaki community, land, and weaving tradition, is beyond stunning.
Maine should be so so proud.

A photo of a boy around 8-10 and a girl around 5, him holding a fishing pole in his left hand and his sister’s hand with his right. They are in blue and the ocean, bright blue, stretched out in front of them.
The caption says:
At the port of Gaza, I saw Mohammed holding his sister Saja's hand as they fished-calmly, as if the world behind them wasn't on fire. A tent of displacement stood behind them, the sea opened wide before them, and the echoes of shelling filled the air. There was a strange peace in the moment, as if childhood itself was resisting the demand to flee. Gaza-where children learn to smile through ruins, to live while death brushes past them. A city of contradictions and quiet defiance.
this undid me today

THOSE OTHERS
We lived at the end of an empire.
Sometimes we gathered in huge auditoriums and tried to understand.
Our shame did not save us, nor our sadness redeem us,
as we came to understand how others, far into the future,
would look back at us,
shaking their heads: we hoped
in sorrow; more likely, anger.

The president of the United States just declared war, actual military war, not a metaphorical one, on a major American city, and one governed by his political opponents.
In any other period, this would be impeachment-worthy.

I know, I know, but: The president of the US saying, literally, "we're going in" in reference to sending the military to an American city for no reason beyond terrorizing the local population should be the most immediately impeachable shit imaginable

‘Who Am I Without Birth Control?’
Another low key terrifying sign of how deeply anti-choicers + natalists have adapted messaging their misinformation to focus on 'wellness.' Convincing people to stop birth control achieves their end of more pregnant people, just as abortion access shrinks.

Teens calling Idaho's suicide hotline are being told they can't proceed with the conversation without parental consent. Many of the callers are then hanging up.
Idaho approved a strict parental consent law last year.

Platner: No one cares that you pretend to be remorseful as you sell out to lobbyists. Symbolic opposition does not reopen hospitals. Weak condemnations do not bring back Roe V Wade. Maine deserves better than Susan Collins.

I want to live in a country + a world where kids don’t ever have to be heroes.
Instead we see them forced into this & more every fucking day, whether in the US or Sudan or Palestine or any number of places. Our unending hunger for wealth, power, and control prevents us from ever loving them well.

Lydia Kaiser
Lydia, 12, was wounded while protecting her
"little buddy" during Annunciation's first Mass of the school year, according to an online fundraising campaign.
"Lydia and Harry are 2 heroes in our midst," a posting on the campaign's page read. The posting noted that Lydia was in "very serious condition and has undergone an unimaginable surgery."
Children should never have to shield each other from bullets, share scraps of food despite rumbling bellies, or sacrifice their bodies or hearts or dreams because adults are more committed to terror and violence and power than they ever have been to the health, safety, and care of children.
