Can we reduce bias in nonprobability samples of social media users?

In POQ, Pollard et al. show that propensity score weighting can reduce differences between samples of X users and the general population.

Wait, Izzo is implying that the history of Fears kicking people in the crotch is the reason that people notice Fears kicking people in the crotch? Isn't that the way precedent works?

A graphic showing the growing partisan divide in the U.S. -- a pattern that is specific to partisanship. In 1994, the average difference across 10 political values items was 15 percentage points. That gap more than doubled by 2017. Gaps by other demographic groupings remained more or less constant during the same period.

I recently had the opportunity to dig up this chart from an old Pew report:

www.pewresearch.org/politics/201...

In my years at Pew, this was the most striking image that I had a part in producing. The graphic takes a little explaining, but the payoff is worth it. (1/

Do You Agree? Do You Strongly Agree? The Effect of the Number of Response Categories on Response Processes and Verification of Substantive Hypotheses Abstract. This study investigates how the number and labeling of response categories in survey scales affect respondent behavior, psychometric properties,

This is consistent with earlier psychometric work that suggests 5-7 is the best response scale options, but good to see that the finding holds up in contemporary research. Also, good to see that labeling scales whether anchored or not has little impact on findings. academic.oup.com/ijpor/articl...
