Don't assume that politicians appearing dumb and stupid are really dumb and stupid. They can pretend to be one, swindle everyone, and have the last laugh. Treat them as you would a con man.

True. This is where the Democrats terribly failed and must share the blame for what is happening now.

Understandable. No one will ever admit that he or she is that stupid.

Yes. And despite knowing that, 80M plus American voters chose him. Does this mean the Americans would rather have Putin increasing his influence in the US rather than having a democratic party president?

I just hope that the SCOPUS as a democratic institution stands firm in its protection of the rule of law. The Philippines patterned its structure of government on the US and it is watching the development closely. A bully neighbor is just around the corner also watching the development.

When free speech or freedom of expression protect even lies and disinformation, and when free speech and freedom of expression are effectively enjoyed only by the rich or those who have the resources to use the most effective communication media, this is hardly the freedom democracy brings.

If you're bullied, kneel in front of the bully to stop him from further bullying you.

If you need help from others, throw your self-respect away as "beggars can't be choosers." You must placate the egos of your donors because they are helping you only out of the goodness of their hearts.

Supporting the defense of a state's territorial integrity against another state's aggression does not necessarily mean being pro-military industrial complex.

I don't understand why bullies are the only ones entitled to bully. Do you?

Trump Fires Joint Chiefs Chairman Amid Flurry of Dismissals at Pentagon The decision to fire Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., a four-star fighter pilot, upends a tradition in which the Joint Chiefs chairman traditionally remains in place as administrations change.

Vicariously, this is what the voters of Trump and of the Senatorswho confirmed Hegseth wants.

If the leader of the most powerful country in the world can get away with a statement like this, we are definitely in a new normal.

Money dictates the course of politics, and there seems to be no way this is going to be fixed anytime soon. Only the hopeless romantic believes that democracy can still be salvaged.

This in-your-face arrogance is unprecedented. It is not only challenging prevailing mindset; it is also attacking mainstream science head-on

I am not sure that one can be truly great if it would be the only one who would believe it is great. True greatness comes when others recognize and affirm your greatness. To be great to convince others of your greatness by showing iour acts of magnanimity. That is how you make yourself truly great.

It's really bewildering that many seem surprised that what they call democracy is actually controlled by oligarchs, as if it were a recent phenomenon.

I instantly became fan of this person of God. The courage to give in-your-face reminders (polite rebuke, actually) to the most powerful man in the world should be a source of envy of men of the cloak.

The most important lesson progressives must have gained in their recent electoral debacles is on the importance of listening and understanding. Preaching does not work. It does not convince. It exacerbates tribalism.

Trump’s Sentence Comes With No Penalty, but He Will Take Office as a Felon Justice Juan M. Merchan gave Donald J. Trump a symbolic punishment. The judge said that leniency was due the office of the president, not the man who will soon hold the title.

The President-Elect Is a Felon, but His Sentence Carries No Penalty www.nytimes.com/2025/01/10/n...

Perhaps there is something worse for US voters than electing a likely felon to the Presidency.

Misunderstanding Democratic Backsliding | Journal of Democracy If democracies did a better job β€œdelivering” for their citizens, so the thinking goes, people would not be so ready to embrace antidemocratic alternatives. Not so. This conventional wisdom about…

"...pointing to poor socioeconomic performance by democratic governments and citizen anger about that performance as the primary drivers of democratic backsliding is a mistake..."

Interesting take!

That there were more American women who would disregard threats to their right of choice to allow Trump to win was a surprise to many.

I just watch "Conclave" and what made me sad was not the movie but the fact that the moviehouse was almost empty. And it is shown in only one time slot. It's an awesome movie! It is such a waste that people ignore it.
