i do kind of love to hate/hate to love the characters tho. violet is so god damn annoying, i hate her motive, she has the WORST lines, i think just like plenty of anime it's overall got a clear but shallow vision. and yet... and YET..!

even in the use of more modern lingo being jammed in it's so juvenile. i think it makes sense if you feel it's unnecessary, but in terms of just indulging that precise vision given a budget that gets steve blum on board i respect the hell out of it

i got into magic at such a shit time, they're just milking it with all of these crossovers and the main thing keeping me into it is the fact that i can still play the in-universe sets in set limited formats. the local card shop scene is good, and folks do play draft around here :')

but a public communal history would also be cool. I wish attribution were more of a collectively respected effort instead of seen as the job of archivists and w/e. not that everyone needs to be an academic about every little fanart doodle and whatever but *shrugs* that's the hard part

really depends on how you think of IP, how radical you think fan work is as a whole, and how that all connects. I personally believe that such work should always have a lineage that allows proper credit but that once it's public there shouldn't be an "owner",

on the other end, going as large scale as fan work tends to get, i think there's ownership folks involved in undertale yellow have over totally new designs, and yet by nature of being fan work there a degree of relinquishing it/bestowing it to the community at large

and like no offense but the "togore" joke is as old as the game practically, and there's like what, 2 or 3 fan comics that have used the now community claimed meme as inspo for the base for the fan work? i dunno.

joke fan character getting claimed by the community is unavoidable but i think some salt is like, a little justified but there's a degree of maturity in letting it go. thinkin' about togore lmao. apparently original sprite creator is miffed about it being tethered to the name

always bugs me a little when someone tries to claim a higher degree of ownership of some fandom thing than one should but i also think there's a huge grey area that's a bit frustrating to work through

i just don't understand the notion that games must be designed not just for people to feel good, but for as many people as possible to feel good. developers are not like, all setting out to do some kind of utilitarian good for the enrichment of humanity lol, it's art, it's communication

anyway tl;dr i thought the last gmtk video was pretty bare bones and didn't really satisfy in answering its own question, let alone pose "solutions" i found satisfying either. i def don't hate his perspective as a whole on all topics but that one was pretty.. ehh.

it's commendable for sure, it comes from a good place and i don't think those games are compromised for it, but it does signal a different sort of intent. but i don't think making "single track" it-is-what-it-is types of experiences are like, "missing" anything either.

like, don't get me wrong, i think those options are cool when they are available, i think it's neat that people DO make games where the intent is to allow people of as many variable skill levels to choose how to play because THEY made a choice about what is important to them, as artists.

-ensuring people have the hardware to mod, have accessible ways of acquiring the game, variable tools to play it, etc. i don't think every dev should be beholden to requiring built in options that allow full-access modular experiences with adjustable dials in menus.

i don't mean that to be so blunt or hurtful to anyone who has that opinion, i'm not saying people who express that hate artists or whatever, i just think the opinion in itself is narrow minded under the guise of being open-minded because it's "inclusive" but to me inclusive means-
