Idk I feel like I haven't seen any "criticism" of Dawntrail's story that wasn't just someone complaining they didn't get what they wanted.

I feel like the Live service model trains you to treat stories like a product catered to you rather than something you have to engage with.

It gets better once they get to egypt but it takes a while to gef there and there's a bunch of real bad episodes on the way.

You can hate the choice I don't care, it's the unwillingness to engage with why the game designer made that choice that bothers me. Friction isn't automatically bad design. Friction can be used to discourage certain player behaviours such as brute forcing a puzzle without engaging with the solution
