30 years ago, when watching The Fast Show or Vic & Bob / Shooting Stars, I wasn’t thinking “I bet one of these chaps will write/illustrate a brilliant history of our monarchy”, but here we are! Really enjoyed this @charliehigson.bsky.social #booksky
I wonder if any keen reader ever gets close to thinking “well, I’ve read all the books I want to read”. Personally I am miles away from this point, and the superb stuff regularly offered by the likes of @whiterabbitbks.bsky.social and @newmodernbooks.bsky.social takes me further away!
A cousin of mine did some work at his house during his 1980s peak, said he was a really decent bloke, bought tea and sarnies out to the workers and had a good chat etc.
Thanks for this 2025 wrap of my reading @thestorygraph.com ! Really must make an effort to read more fiction in 2026… #booksky
A little late on posting this, but who can relate? #booksky www.theguardian.com/books/pictur...
Ha ha, that’s one for the FIFA rulebook appendix!
I’d like to know of other instances where “first red card in ages” has reduced a ban, is that a thing?!
Bought my first boots and many years afterwards, first running shoes there. Believe it’s now a charity shop where the last time I visited, I saw a pair of boots for sale, a unintentional nod to history!
Beautiful! Any chance of a cryptic hint as to what number 8 will be? :-)
Just finished reading A Life Less Heavy by Nigel Planer, what a great read. Cried with laughter at parts of it, unfortunately for me whilst on a train. #booksky
I admire the stance of FC United Of Manchester to opt out of this. Step 3-4 now move some fixtures to accommodate streaming, whatever next? southern-football-league.co.uk/News/137192/...
“Grok can make mistakes”. I was going to say that I missed the Downton episode where Lord Grantham entered into a frank debate with Earl Gilbert of Braintree.
Twitter outdoes itself once again…
Let me know when google confirms the venue… #T20
It’s a complete waste of time. I will give a donation to charity every time one of these interviews contains something remotely interesting or revealing. Suspect this won’t cost me much…
Ah Virgin Media, wonderful pictures in your service tonight. Was the goal any good? #LIVBOU ?
Tough opener to the “Tokyo quiz” on my screensaver today.
Using old Evening Standards to clean out rabbit hutches. These words of wisdom from last August, their “according to reports” didn’t happen and probably won’t for a few years…. No mention of Liverpool’s chances in the entire article, so the chief football correspondent did well here(!)
Thoughts with that Daily Mail journo who wrote that story about Leah Williamson a few weeks back. Expecting her to jump on the bandwagon in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…
Never in doubt!
Yes agree. Her day isn’t getting any better.
Oh yes of course
Probably just as well that we didn’t have any penalty shoot outs during his era (I think…)
She was always going to ref the final once France were knocked out though. Often I’ve been impressed with her but today she hasn’t been great.
<tick symbol> !
Wishing all at Morecambe well. To go from being fairly stable in League 1 a few years ago (they faced ITFC during their L1 era), to this very troubling situation, is devastating for the town. I do sometimes wonder if it’s possible to fail the “fit and proper ownership” test, has it ever happened?!
It’s a great read, and sadly emphasised to me that the beautiful game moves further away from the everyday fan with every state-run club takeover and the awarding of locations of future tournaments. FIFA clearly understands money first and foremost.
Nothing new here, we experienced this in 1999 with a very prominent national EA and lost out on a house as a result. Some time later, we saw the employee (who had subsequently moved on) who admitted it was standard practice there. The chain still exists today albeit under a different name.
Love your work! Any chance of X-level updates here on Bluesky? Best wishes.
Notable observation from Seb Hutchison on ITVs coverage that England fans applauded the Wales national anthem. This is something I’ve seen at a number of international women’s fixtures and is good to see. Additionally the lack of play-acting / diving is refreshing.
