I'm happy to report that the district court just granted summary judgment to Perkins Coie in its lawsuit against the Trump administration order. It's a powerful decision, and it cites our amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie

Reminder that words matter. You canโt โdeportโ a US citizen. You might be kidnapping, disappearing, exiling, expelling, illegally removing, etc., but youโre not โdeportingโ a US citizen.

DoJ lawyers are expected to parrot their boss's words w/o regard to their obligations as to the courts.
Law has always only been partly a "profession" while also a business. But "profession" is evaporating.
I did a short interview on the amicus brief we filed in support of Perkins Coie

I agree that generative AI firms, like OpenAi, should be accountable to humanity. This is why @polcz.bsky.social and I advocate for fractional public ownership of AGI. Our common humanity was harvested by these machines and we are each entitled to a share of it. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....

They were intelligent, had considerable schooling, and at the time they were arrested they had lived in the United States terms varying from five to ten years, but *none of them had applied for naturalization.*" (highlighted)
Re-reading Abrams v. United States for the gazillionth time to prep for class tomorrow and I had overlooked this before, or forgotten it: perhaps the most famous free speech opinion ever, the birth of the "marketplace of ideas" metaphor was... written about non-citizens.
