One of my favorite resources is the @turingway.bsky.social book.
Why? It has A TON of helpful information and the community creating the book is one of the best I've ever seen.

An important question/issue for all of us who try to build #OpenScience and #FOSS environments that can last.
For an upcoming newsletter post I am looking for the best

What are yours, and why?
How can we establish financially sustainable organisations and initiatives that are grounded in the values of Open Science?
I created a list of ways to generate money as an #OpenScience initiative, service or business (including #OpenSource).

Stop celebrating researchers with many publications
rogue-scholar.org/records/dbgq... by @heidiseibold.bsky.social This is right on the point. One should also stop speaking of hyperprolific authors (www.nature.com/articles/d41...) In science, being prolific should not be judged by mere output. 1/
The number of publications is an often used KPI in researcher assessment for promotions, hiring, academic prizes or more. Yet does the quantity tell a relevant story of the quality or impact of our research? I donโt think so.

I had the honor of participating in Tampa Bay Estuary Program's #OpenScience meeting yesterday and learned about the wonderful work they do there.

To know more about what Open Science truly entails, here's an interview with our co-executive director, Heidi Seibold. "Why open science is โjust good science in a digital era"

Day1
In a quiet winter forest, a small Open Science Bird decides to build the best nest ever. Not just any nest but one built openly, so every creature can learn from it.
โIf research is a nest,โ she chirps, โthen I am building mine so everyone benefits.โ
To know more about feedbacks and assessments, check out this workshop 'Giving Negative Feedback Effectively'

Day 2
She sketches her nest design and pins it to a tree trunk like a public notice board.
โMaybe someone can help me improve this,โ she says.
A squirrel adds a clever tweak; a hedgehog suggests reinforcing the base.
The blueprint becomes better with every pawprint.
Day 3
A sudden gust of wind snatches her blueprint, well almost!
Luckily, she has all her versions tucked safely in her pinecone-based version control system.
She smirks, โHa! Try blowing away v1.1, forest.โ

At TUM Audimax lecture hall this evening for rehearsal for my TEDx talk on November 8th.
Hopefully my colourful notes will help me remember what I want to say.
In this post, guest author Maxi shares her experience in reusing data and machine learning models. It's frustrating, because people don't share or don't even respond to a clearly "reasonable request".
