I'm just a guy trying to be a good dad. I also have a 1958 Airstream Flying Cloud in my back yard that I'm trying to find time to restore and/or renovate.
Flying Cloud!
I guess it's illegal to keep a camper in my driveway. So. I moved my Airstream into my back yard. I had to fly it over the house due to the narrow lot.
This was the day I reattached the shell to the frame. It didn't fit the first time. I had to reshape the front end of the subfloor. The floor I inherited was poorly patched in several places & wasn't much of a template.
12.12.2024 14:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I sealed the edges of the plywood with a slow curing epoxy made to soak into the wood fibers. The floor is then insulated with rigid foam. And, a new belly pan was fabricated. Then new aluminum c-channel was fabricated from undrilled unistrut.
03.12.2024 14:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In 1958 campers didn't have gray water tanks. I fabricated brackets & added these nice new tanks for gray and black water. I'll put a fresh water tank inside. Then I made a new subfloor from marine grade plywood with a phenolic top layer.

I removed the old floor & belly pan. I had the frame sandblasted and I gave it a shiny new coat of paint. It's just about ready for the new floor.
And then I built a 2x4 frame inside the shell, and used that to lift the shell off the floor.
26.11.2024 14:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I found out the only correct way to fix the soft spots in the floor of my 1958 Airstream was to remove the shell. So I got busy removing the interior.
25.11.2024 14:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It took something like 60 hours to get it this shiny. But I think it was totally worth it.
22.11.2024 14:15 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here are some of the original light fixtures from my 1958 Airstream Flying Cloud. They will all be cleaned up, rewired for low voltage (12V) and used in the final build.
21.11.2024 14:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0First thing I wanted to accomplish... Getting this classic Airstream nice and shiny!
19.11.2024 17:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Don't worry! I'm saving and reusing as much as I can.
19.11.2024 17:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Here are a few "before" pictures of my 1958 Flying Cloud. She was mostly original when I brought her home. Sadly, she had several soft spots in her floor, water leaks, and miscellaneous poorly executed repairs.
