Long-tailed Skua. Great bird but not very helpful for photo's staying clear of the boat.

Stunning gulls
Fulmar were close to the boat... Adore these!

Low numbers in the trap last night but a Rosy Underwing made up for that.

Thank you, I suspected as much

Little Emerald
Jersey Mocha
Migrant Sable
Gracillaria syringella
Trapped in a wooded valley on the South Coast of Guernsey last night. A small site.
69 species including a few very nice ones. Photo's of some of the new to me moths below. See Alt text for names.
Chartoscirta cincta
Chevron (not behaving for a photo!)
Brown-veined Wainscot
Bulrush Wainscot
Some moths from a La Societe Entomology Section outing to Grand Pre NR on 12th July. We ran 6 traps and captured 97 species of moth.
The bug is one of the Saldidae - Shore Bugs - Chartoscirta cincta and these are a new species for Guernsey.
Photo's labelled in Alt Text.
Snout is correct, that's about as far as I go.
29.06.2025 21:37 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0But I do wonder if it's a retention thing with the wide hole on my commercial made mini robinson trap.
29.06.2025 19:50 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It works fine at home! Maybe these dark places are different. I'll change the bulb next outing.
29.06.2025 19:48 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Most interesting was the moths per trap. The MV just doesn't perform in the field, maybe too easy for moths to escape compared to my homemade skinner style traps. 63+ of 36 to MV, 91+ of 51 to Twin 30w Actinic tubes and 137+ of 54 to the little 20w Wemlite + 20W Black UV (the + is Least Carpets!)
29.06.2025 19:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It was done quickly due to the midges! Excluding Least carpets (of which I estimate over 100, I stopped counting), 291 other moths, not sure on species count over the 3 traps yet, need to get them all together, but i think 5 new to me species in there, but still no Striped Hawk...

28.06.2025 12:16 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0@mothiduk.bsky.social looks like this might be Metalampha sp and more like M.cinnamomea with the dark colour. VC113 Guernsey. Heavy migrant night. Any comments or opinions please?

19.06.2025 11:32 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A few nice oce moths this morning. Not a huge number of migrants but a pair of Feline is pretty special and I assume migrant as I've never had one in 12 years of trapping here. Also Marbled White Spot rare for here, a few Small Mottled Willow, Dark Swordgrass as common migrants.

It's very wet out, but hopefully these heavy showers will subside and the gentle F2/3 originating in North Africa and coming across the continent will bring us something nice as well as whatever local moths are about ready for tomorrow's #bioblitz.

Moths:
1. Dotted Border
2. Seraphim
3. Acleris literana (new one for me)
4. Caloptilia stigmatella
Also had Waved Umber, Hebrew Character, Common Quaker, Rusty Dot Pearl and Bloxworth Snout who didn't stay for a photo. It is still March...
It's taken 10 years to get 1, be hundreds by next year!
