Whenever someone is blatantly prejudiced against one group (e.g., Stoller’s longstanding Sinophobia), you know it’s only a matter of time before he turns against other groups
the largest state university in ohio quite literally banned sidewalk chalk while one of epstein's biggest supporters still has his name all over half the buildings on campus
When I tell my students we’re going to discuss the ethics of AI in class, they often assume we’ll be talking about plagiarism and academic integrity. And we do, eventually. But we start here: the illusion of seamless computer magic is built on worker exploitation.
Extremely funny day for the OSU Health Plan to send out an email touting “a mindful approach to managing transition”
Good oped from @dispatch.com: “The appointment of the third new president in five years is a Band-Aid over a wound that the OSU Board of Trustees still must heal. The move to fill the position seems inexplicably rushed, considering that Carter was essentially forced to resign less than a week ago…”
Most countries in the world: What's a mass shooting?
United States, today: Which mass shooting are you talking about?
As a member of a different Reform
synagogue in the Midwest also named Temple Israel, this cuts me really close to the bone
Really cannot think of a better argument for the importance of becoming a dues-paying member of @aaup.org than the last week at Ohio State - our only hope to have faculty, staff, and student voices heard is if we organize
Our members, on and off the board, showing up this morning at the OSU board of trustees event announcing Ravi Bellamkonda as the new president. We spoke to the media about our extreme disappointment with the process and repeated our call for a more transparent, inclusive, and democratic university.
It's so wild to me Ohio State has the same institutional problems it did when I was a student there 10+ years ago. Obviously this is by design, but I still feel whiplash reading things like this
The rushed selection of Ohio State University’s new president forgoes principles of shared governance and ignores input from faculty, staff & students.

And just like that, a new permanent OSU president!
Please read & circulate our statement.
We will continue to be active in creating space for the voices of faculty & the university community. We invite all faculty to join the chapter & all who want transparency & inclusion to work with us.
Who needs a robust search process that includes input from faculty, staff, and students when you can just have the football coach sign off instead
(note that this version has some typos corrected from the previous one that I posted)
The Ohio State University Board of Trustees has made it official so here’s @osuaaup.bsky.social's statement on the selection of Provost Ravi Bellamkonda as the new permanent president of OSU without any search process that included faculty, staff, or students news.osu.edu/ravi-v-bella...
For those of you playing at home, Ballamkonda is the “stuff AI into every classroom” guy
We’ve long known the conflicts of interests on state appointed Boards, but unaccountable Boards are now devouring universities
As the Ohio State University Board of Trustees meeting begins and makes the news official, here’s @osuaaup.bsky.social’s statement on the selection of Provost Ravi Ballamkonda as the new permanent president of OSU
The trustees deciding to appoint a new permanent, not-interim Ohio State University president with zero input from faculty, staff, and students is bad, regardless of whom they picked. Bellamkonda is going to have an uphill battle to win the trust of all the people who had no say in his selection.
Wait, I thought Bluesky was familiar with Young Sheldon because it featured America’s favorite democratic socialist Wallace Shawn

Well that didn’t take long to leak: “NBC4 confirmed through two sources on Wednesday night that the university will elevate Executive Vice President and Provost Ravi V. Bellamkonda to become its 18th full-time president.”
One of the school board members who voted to remove a “Hate Has No Home Here” poster is literally a Nazi
“People not on the [Jews’] payroll know that the U.S. fought on the wrong side of [World War 2],” Smith posted on Threads on Nov. 28, after he was elected to the Little Miami Board of Education.
even the most vulgar, knee-jerk anti-war hippie in history was frankly still too moderate about the absurd, grotesque vileness of U.S. military spending

The article says “The university has not indicated who will take the helm, or whether they will serve in an interim or full-time appointment” but many of the candidates they mention would only make sense as non-interim replacements
Best rundown I’ve seen of the likely candidates for next OSU president. Seems like decision has been made to pick a permanent replacement for Carter without any input from outside the trustees, which is bad whoever they pick. Wonder if the choice will leak before tomorrow morning.
This is such embarrassing corruption - whoever becomes the next leader of Ohio State will need to take dramatic action to show their independence from this swampy self-dealing or they will be presumptively complicit and illegitimate

My alma mater, Ohio State, is choosing a new president. There's a real fear that they'll jawbone through another MAGA lackey, when we want a transparent process. To that end, a petition to the Board of Trustees is circulating. Would love for people to sign it! actionnetwork.org/petitions/tr...
