Columbus City Schools may have to stop bussing high school students entirely because Ohio law requires public school districts to prioritize bussing for charter and private school students - and the state is already fining Columbus more than $10 million/year for not complying enough

"Many said they had come to Fort Jackson because they saw no other choice. 'I was tired of being homeless,' a 22-year-old trainee, who had grown up on a South Dakota Indian reservation, said. A 34-year-old from Ivory Coast graduated from an online college that...left him $90,000 in debt."

Rutgers professor moving to Europe after threats over antifa accusations Mark Bray says threats intensified after a Turning Point USA petition accused him of promoting political violence

Mark Bray is a brilliant scholar and by all accounts a caring and wonderful educator, and is now moving to Europe because the fascists doxed him and his family

Feels pretty huge that he’s forced to do thisβ€”the harassment was bad in β€˜16 but I don’t think he’s ever felt compelled to leave the country

The VP of the united states was open and forthcoming when he said the GOP’s plan for housing and the affordability crisis was to simply steal from deported migrants. He obviously assumed nobody would care if this also included black and brown Americans in the crosshairs.

I'm tired of so many in higher ed feeling like we can only defend higher ed by first granting the premise of every right wing attack on higher ed.

The trust trends don't correlate with tuition/deb trends but do with the GOP's collapse into far right authoritarianism & ongoing media Discourse.

Good piece.

What I just can’t shake these days is the specter of β€œend times fascism.” The thought that certain oligarchs foresee only crisis with no viable fix. That their abandonment of the future, so stupid by our standards, has a certain rationality for those who can provision some kind of exit.

The "anti-tax" state legislature has created a top-10 property tax state.

A 20-year campaign to grind down state support of local government -- the local government fund sliced, the estate tax eliminated.

Cincinnati gets more of its budget from building inspection fees than from state aid.

Trump is preparing to go after Antifa, waiting for them to make a move. Antifa is preparing for riots in major cities. Since Portland is their headquarters, it seems essential that the National Guard would be in Oregon.
Governor Kotek is in panic mode releasing news every day on her opposition. Portland Police are working with Antifa to criminalize federal agents. "Out in Oregon, the Governor, the mayor and police are all part of Antifa." Shan Davis explains, "Once you understand that Portland police is Antifa, everything else it does and refuses to do suddenly makes sense." If they are part of Antifa, they are part of the insurrection.
Antifa has been hired to create a civil war. Kotek has been telling people to stay calm, all the while she is still promoting Antifa to start a civil war.

In case you’re wondering how grassroots Republican activists in Oregon are metabolizing what’s happening in the state. This person is a coordinator for two long running conservative organizations in the state: The Gathering of the Eagles and the Abigail Adams project.

and yet also a movie very much out of time - inspired by a novel about how the politics of the 60's became out of place in the 80's, a tribute to the paranoid thrillers of the 1970s with main characters much more like the Weather Underground than any group today. Still chewing over that piece of it.
