I first rented it expecting something along the lines of Friday the 13th, but it wasn’t a “fun” slasher. Crassly exploitative, it’s actually smarter than most run of the mill slashers. The trio of gal pals are wonderful and the cretin brothers put the “pathetic” in sympathetic. Queenie lives!!!

Saw it in the theater upon its release. Instantly loved it. Insanely likable cast, plenty of laughs and suspense, Amy Steel kicking ass and that ending! I’ve gone back and forth on the ending over the years, but now I truly love it for all the damns it does not give. Always a joy to watch.

I watched this morning on a double feature with The Iron Giant. (Belinda Balaski’s cameo in SS is still my favorite part.)

After a promising ice pick kill, the focus shifts to a middle-aged photographer who dreams about killing his models. Slasher aspects seem like an afterthought, and copious nightmares kill potential for any genuine suspense. The killer is exactly who you think it is. Watchable, but nothing special.

Easily the best Jim Wynorski flick Jim Wynorski never made. Adam Rifkin hits a balance of Chopping Mall and Hard to Die and has Joe Vickers crash an after hours bachelor party in an office building. Bobby Ray Schafer seems to be having a ball. I consider it a ridiculously fun popcorn slasher.

It’s like a nightmare we can’t wake up from. Very grateful for movies, even the bad ones.

Times were changing to reflect the post-Vietnam era. Life seemed grim. Slashers reflected those changing attitudes and offered an escape from the constant fears and threats the world kept throwing at us. I mean, not a day went by that we weren’t reminded we were waiting for a nuclear holocaust.
