A cement ship from New Brunswick arrived in Port Morris this morning, I believe the first since the US-Canada trade war got hot earlier this month. I believe cement tariffs are currently paused, as long as NAFTA paperwork is complete but don’t know for sure, it is increasingly complicated.

Investigating a Grim Upper West Side Ritual of Spring "It's a sad business, but we do our best to identify people and get them to their families for proper burial."

Not the most comfortable subject, but having reported on a number of bodies discovered in the river over the past few years, I wanted to provide more context on this phenomenon and better understand the causes. See article www.westsiderag.com/2025/02/05/i...

I saw a seal today on the Hudson River, north of the Boat Basin. Never saw a seal on the river before, though it’s not unheard of. Wish I got a better photo—I know someone will tell me this was the Loch Ness Monster

Thinking about local maritime impact from the NAFTA trade war, and McInnis Cement comes to mind. The company gets regular deliveries from New Brunswick by ship at its Hunts Point terminal. There is a ship at the pier there right now.

There is ice on the Hudson this morning along the West Side of Manhattan, the first time in a few years we have seen this much. There has been plenty of us up north for the past few weeks and the Coast Guard has been busy up there but it’s only now reaching us down here

The sail freighter Grain de Sail II is anchored off 72nd Street this morning, came up from the Upper Bay ahead of gales later today. Ship brings wine and chocolate from France to NYC and then heads for the Dominican Rep with humanitarian supplies before heading back to France with cocoa and coffee.

EDC kicked off public engagement for 30 yr plan for Manhattan Cruise terminal tonight at Pier 88. Public wants more access and shore power, but interesting to hear blue highway uses remain in play for now unused Pier 92. 30yr plan due in Spring 2025.
