With protests happening, April 5
I wanted to drop some solid advice for staying safe and looking out for each other. Whether you’re a seasoned protester or showing up for the first time, a little prep goes a long way.

Before You Go

Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

If you cannot find cover, move to concealment (out of view). Leave as quickly and safely as possible.

If you hear an explosion, get out quickly by way of the safest and fastest route.

Observe, Orient, Decide, Act: use this to stay calm and make decisions during high-stress situations.

If violence erupts:

If chemical agents are dispersed, quickly move upwind if possible.

Use water, NOT MILK, especially in your eyes to remove irritants once it is safe to do so.
If you hear gunfire, get low and then move to cover (a protected place to hide).

2. Prepare a bag with key supplies (water, a towel, snacks, sunscreen, a phone charger).

3. MEMORIZE or write on your arm any emergency contacts.

4. Be aware of your surroundings (especially if things get/are getting rowdy) and ASSUME that you are being watched / recorded.

LA fam, if you are protesting, pls know your rights and prepare accordingly. Re-sharing some tips:

1. Have a BUDDY or tell someone (who will NOT be at the protest) where you will be going and WHEN they should expect you back / freak out if they haven't heard from you.

There are also other forms of activism. This is a level 80 protest today and people TRAIN for these events. Instead, pls share info and consider donating to CHIRLA.org

Ellis Island: Battle Royale - Issue #1 The DHS was right.

Last year, I read a friend's script, an immigrant battle royale on 1890s Ellis Island. I thought it was solid absurdist social commentary...

Then DHS floated a reality game show for US citizenship.

My friend said screw it and launched the Kickstarter for the comic version of his script. See below.
