This absolutely beautiful blog post describes the author receiving an “alien in a can” at age 8 and was told to never open it lest the alien dies.
He compares his experimentations to efforts in psych science to draw inferences about psych states.

I often hear therapists and somatics people still refer to the triune brain model. As well as talk about "limbic systems". Any recommendations on resources to suggest to non-neuroscientists, to come more in line with current views in neuroscience? www.youtube.com/watch?v=7STm...

The graph shows three Mona Lisa paintings. The one on the far left has been reimagined as large pixels; underneath, it is labeled "Biology / Neuroscience." The one in the center is the original Mona Lisa, with the words "Psychology" underneath. On the far right, Mona Lisa's face is redrawn as a caricature (with reference to Mr Bean). "Pseuodo-Science" is written underneath.

The fall semester's first course, "Mind and Behavior," starts tomorrow. The graphic below is an example of my standpoint for the whole course. Take no offense. 😎

New paper!   People often do not remember information they just searched for (link.springer.com/article/10.3...).

Subjects were asked to draw the contents of their memory immediately after searching for a target in a natural scene  Thread!

A simple statistical framework for small sample studies bioRxiv - the preprint server for biology, operated by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a research and educational institution

Many psychophysics & brain mapping studies use small samples. This often deeply confuses editors & reviewers trained on population statistics. It can also make it difficult to preregister & interpret such studies. Here we attempt to change that:
