I'm so proud to share that my student Mythri has published her BSc thesis work! Mythri was super interested in plant-acid interactions, she found that specific acid types matter to plants, not just pH.
This is the 1st paper from work done in my own lab πŸ™‚

Severe #droughts are causing concern for #wildfires in #NovaScotia πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦. The hiking ban includes #forests, #barrens & #peatlands. I hear mixed opinions on whether to pause #fieldwork or seek exemptions and carry on. As a #PI with students part-way through their thesis projects, what would you do?

What are my students doing these days? Botanizing & more botanizing! I have such a great team of students this summer - fieldwork in Nova Scotia & Ontario & on-campus experiments. Beautiful herbarium vouchers & data so far. I’ll be using this platform to highlight them & their important work πŸƒ

Canadian wetlands are treasures that deserve protection Canada is home to a quarter of the world’s remaining wetlands. Despite decades of efforts, wetlands continue to be under threat around the world.

COP15 of the Ramsar Convention starts today. Here in Canada we have the privilege of being home to a quarter of the world's remaining wetlands. Let's not forget what a treasure they are.

Coastal fieldwork is magic. The fog rolled in so thick, I could almost hold it in my hands. So many blooms and berries this week!

Updated plant hardiness zones for Canada and assessment of change over time Scientific Reports - Updated plant hardiness zones for Canada and assessment of change over time

Wow - the science behind the updated plant hardiness map for #Canada rdcu.be/evpvj. Largest changes in the west/northwest mostly due to warmer temperatures. No changes in some areas, but #Halifax (south-central NS) sees a 0.5 zone increase, changing rain patterns contributing. planthardiness.gc.ca

Just joined Bluesky today - I loved the academic twitter community I'd built over 10 years so much, and it's been hard to let go and move on... but I have great colleagues & friends that assure me it's nice here too πŸ™‚ Time to start something new and hopefully reconnect with some familiar faces 🌱
