When talk to colleagues, I see a growing interest in the central question of this paper: what if weโ€™ve been designing genetic circuits the wrong way? After all, natural networks *look* very different. This work, which has gone somewhat unnoticed, is one of my favourites! doi.org/10.1162/isal...

We show that optimising the design at the single cell level might not translate well when whole culture dynamics are taken into account! But don't worry we can take advantage of the host's biosynthetic constraints to simplify the design of circuit!

Really happy to contribute to this fantastic work led by Harman Mehta in collaboration with Rodrigo Ledesma and
@gbstan.bsky.social!! Harman demonstrates that a microbial biosynthetic pathway can be more efficient if divided between two strains ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Impact of fleQ Deficiency on Resource Allocation and Heterologous Gene Expression in Pseudomonas putida Across Various Growth Media Deletion of the flagella regulator gene (fleQ) results in more consistent heterologous gene expression without significantly affecting bacterial growth, potentially due to better resource allocation....
