The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets: The result is the first generation less cognitively capable than their parents | Fortune Neuroscientist Jared Cooney Horvath said older generations “screwed up” giving students access to so much technology: “I genuinely hope Gen Z quickly figures that out and gets mad.”

Now THAT's a headline.

Underpass of a bridge leading to a beach, flooded with low water. Graffiti is on the concrete. Lifeguard house (?) with truck next to it center left, middle distance. Yellow warning sign with black text lower right. Beach leads down to the ocean in the distance. Looking down at a beach from small hill with grasses and wildflowers. Sandbags are set up at stages leading down to the beach. Two figures are walking toward the right from center. A large rock is center right, the ocean in the midground, sky at the top. White and grey (?) bird at center on sand near the edge of the ocean. Rocks are spread around.

Some shots from a camping trip to Leo Carillo State Park, Malibu.

Lifeguard building (?) center left on a bluff overlooking the beach and ocean. Two women are doing exercises on the beach directly beneath the lifeguard building. Some is standing on an outcropping at center right. Ocean on the right, grassy bluffs on the left. Beach lower center. Silhouetted lifeguard station center left. Taller grasses in the lower half with a wooden railing leading from lower left across the horizon. Blue lifeguard station in center, ocean at bottom, blue skies with wispy clouds above. Bridge L-R with water flowing underneath, away from the beach, with an earthen berm moving from lower right through center right, under the bridge.

Same day/place, switched to Kodak Gold 200 @ 400.

Overall I feel like I didn't get a ton of great shots on this trip. Beautiful location but I wasn't really doing much with composition.

Looking at the Malibu coast at a distance over grasses and some palm trees center left. Some tall yellow wildflowers (mustard? idk anything) among some grasses looking up a hill toward blue skies in the top 1/3. A couple sitting in the shade of an umbrella on a beach looking out at the ocean. Tan pop-top VW van at a Mobil station getting gas.

Kodak Ektar 100. I was trying to hit blues and reds with this roll because I heard that's what Ektar 100 is good at emphasizing but I fear this is another flop.

We are looking at a close up of a small wooden carved mouse on an oak chair. It is climbing up the scroll of the top of a chair and has a long straight tail and finely carved whiskers.

Good morning from everyone at the Hall including Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson's mouse.

She's doing very well she says and thanks you for asking.

Although his penmanship remains an issue, Maxwell was very enthusiastic and applied himself this week. He is a joy to have in class!

A few years ago I had a partner who was a former roboticist. Through her I became acutely aware of how much of public-facing robotics is now is pure theatrical smoke and mirrors horseshit intended to dupe credulous tech press and VCs.

The Battle of Waterloo, 1815.

Wait a minute, why are they wearing equipment from 101 years later?

Something to look out for when admiring manuscripts from the middle ages is that they often depict events from history with the arms and armour of the current day

(Pretend I painted this in 1916 lol)

so if i understand this correctly, gaines has made her career by publicly calling trans athletes predators and threats to women while completely failing to ever mention even once that her mentor/college swimming coach was sexually assaulting and harassing women on the team while she was there?

this is not "everyone is twelve" theory. this is the slightly rarer but typically much more consequential "no one knows what lawyers do" theory

Two panels commemorating the contribution of Black American soldiers towards the liberation of the Netherlands in World War Two have been quietly removed from a cemetery in Limburg. It follows a complaint by right-wing think tank The Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission.

Joyce Carol Oates
@Joyce... 17h O
So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates— scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend's or relative's accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the
"most wealthy person in the world." Elon Musk ' @elonmusk

Oates is a liar and delights in being mean.
Not a good human.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Ezra is right. In 2010, 1/4 of the House Dem caucus was pro-life. Without those votes Dems cannot build a strong majority.

AND THEN THEY LOST. THEY ALL FUCKING LOST TO REPUBLICANS. IT WAS FIFTEEN YEARS AGO AND THEY NEVER GOT ELECTED AGAIN BECAUSE PEOPLE JUST VOTED FOR THE REPUBLICAN. DO ACTUALLY NOT FUCKING COMPREHEND WHY THAT HAPPENED
