Grant grace. Believe people when they show you who they are. Hold accountable. These three things are not mutually exclusive nor should they be.

They were buried beneath Fallcrest when the Gnolls attacked (found in the last decade and used for power). The stones were the reason Fallcrest wasn't razed though, but my players don't know that yet. The city elders believe it was the elevated defenses.

I kept the points of light idea and most of the major settlements and factions - with minor adjustments. Most of my players started with 5e so I can also pepper in classic adventures for them to find as they explore this version of the Vale.

I traded rampaging Gnolls for the Orcs to fit modern sensibilities emphasize a demonic presense that had been contained 5 decades prior to the campaign start. I also changed the last great Empire to the Arkhosians and made them Dragonborn (since none of my players chose to play a Dragonborn).

As they are exploring the Vale, they are learning they are the only community to have harnessed these Runestones in this way.

I made Fallcrest into the Isolated, Sprawling Steampunk city they asked for by introducing Elemental Runestones carved by giants, found by the small folk, and used to fuel steam engines and make energy.

I polled my players to see what they were interested in.
They chose: Isolated Home, Sprawling Steampunk City, Regional Disaster, focused on Giants and Undead.
As we had played Eberron pretty recently, I wanted to do something different.
I decided to dust off the Nentir Vale.
