can't stop thinking on how it's one of the few otaku stories that *really* meditates on how the usual boy-meets-girl anime narrative can lead to the worst kind of mindset. a shame umehara is now stuck doing seasonal anime slop, yet another reason VNs dying is a bad thing

that being said it's probably going to grow on me as time goes on because it's such a daring VN. ending your 60 hour long VN with 'true crime-brain is what allows capitalism and the upper classes to flourish' (almost word for word) while also doing an anti-coming-of-age story is really ballsy

i kind of hated going through Nono's route but that scene where BREAK FORTH plays while Takuru finally uses his di-sword is such a good moment. a shame about y'know, the rest of it but the same can be said to all of the other routes except for the common route and true end

like, i get being frustrated at the state of the arthouse movie theater scene but the blame here is very much misplaced. also lol at some people going 'you're not owed art', great leftist discourse, man.

yeah, this post from the other site puts it well. most people who pirate movies like this would love to see it on a big screen in 70mm, 35mm or whatever but as it is now it's only available to people in first world countries (and even then, just in major cities like NY)

and even outside of that, the movie is already on jp Amazon Prime and i really can't see Kiyoshi Kurosawa as an 'indie filmmaker' that would be financially hurt by this. it seems to be more of an issue about US distributors thinking in terms of 'piracy = lost sale' which as we all know is nonsense

probably the most frustrated i've been reading twitter discourse lol. a lot of pirates do play-up the 'piracy makes me morally good and anti-capitalist' too much for my taste (and i pirate a lot) but the other side of it is so anglocentric it drives me insane

And when it *does* switch to hand-drawn animation it's very obviously wonky and melting, probably the worst parts of the show but you can't win them all, hope AveMuji leans more into the 3D stuff

It makes for some very rewarding rewatches. I'm not a big 3D anime guy but it's definitely one that benefits a lot from it, there's a cinematic flair to it with the way it plays with blocking and mise-en-scène that's harder to capture with hand-drawn stuff unless you have a very talented director

Yeah, there's lots of these, it's crazy. Off the top of my head there's also how she used to have an expensive grand piano at home but after you only see her practicing with the school one because it's the only one she could touch until starting AveMuji lol, truly incredible how much her life sucks

there's also some cool visual clues alluding to that twist, like how she used to wear expensive bags (first 2 images) in the flashbacks but after the Crychic debacle she only wears cheap ones with very poor needlework (3rd image) implying she sold it after her dad ruined all the family's finances
