Devastated & horrified by the Tai Po fire — but Dan & I are safe. As American Thanksgiving dawns across the Pacific, just want to say I am thankful for our family, friends, colleagues, boyos, our health & safety, & each of you. Hug a loved one pls, & keep HK in your thoughts. ♥️

Press release: Energy Department Announces $100 Million to Restore America’s Coal Plants

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for up to $100 million in federal funding to refurbish and modernize the nation’s existing coal power plants. It follows the Department’s September announcement of its intent to invest $625 million to expand and reinvigorate America’s coal industry. The effort will support practical, high-impact projects that improve efficiency, plant lifetimes, and performance of coal and natural gas use.

“For years, the Biden and Obama administrations relentlessly targeted America’s coal industry and workers, resulting in the closure of reliable power plants and higher electricity costs," said U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. “Thankfully, President Trump has ended the war on American coal and is restoring common sense energy policies that put Americans first. These projects will help keep America's coal plants operating and ensure the United States has the reliable and affordable power it needs to keep the lights on and power our future."

“That leaves us with a massive asymmetry, where Charlie Kirks work against rule of law democracy, Ezra Kleins pretend that they don’t, and together they work to convince everyone that all this is fine, just normal disagreement, so the people taking attacks on democracy seriously are the problem.”

We ended up sitting there for hours. Just shooting the shit. And at some point it he confided in me — the first time he’d told anyone — that he was gay.

That was almost 15 years ago now. But I still remember how glad and also deeply sad I felt as he laughed away tears of relief.

Freshman year of college I attended the first queer-straight student alliance meeting, and later a boy from my dorm whom I’d seen there asked if we could talk. Sorta taken aback but eager to make friends, I proposed we get coffee, and we sat down at a picnic table on the quad.

Love to feel my brain working less well and having to wonder if it’s just aging or if it’s permanent damage from covid or the spoon of microplastics up there or the decade of chronic stress from the global resurgence of fascism

Ordinary people are out on the street giving their all against a bully who is not only corrupt but unpopular, not only flailing at the proof he’s a child rapist but visibly dying before our eyes. And people with actual wealth and power are *racing* to lick his boots. We’re on our own.
