The divergence of the show's history is that Sergei Korolev the father of the Soviet space program doesn't die during a routine surgery in 1966 (due to the fact that his jaws, injured during his time in a Gulag, had not healed properly and impeded intubation).

Right, they call it N-deterrence also known as Minimum Credible/Full spectrum deterrence, it came about because of the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971 and India first nuclear test in 1974.

An early model Volkswagon Beetle, from which emerges an impossibly long line of clowns. Sad clowns, happy clowns, tramp clowns, rodeo clowns, mime clowns, and more. A series of startling CRACKS! wakes you up. It’s the rattling gunfire of an Apache attack helicopter’s autocannons. You rub your eyes and look around. There’s no VW Bug here. You must have been dreaming. All you see is a helicopter hovering above your campus. It spins in tight 360 degree circles, taking aim at everyone on the grounds. The sidewalks run red and white with blood and greasepaint. They told you clown college was going to be tough, but you had no idea.

I miss my family's used 1989 Toyota Camry LE sedan it was the first nice car my family ever owned, it had a sunroof and I don't think anyone had sat in the back seat when we bought it when I was in middle school.

A black and white line drawing of an AGM-86 air-launched cruise missile. Widely used by the United States Air Force in Operation Desert Storm in 1991, this particular cruise missile is most well known today for the mysterious incident during the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, in which three cruise missiles en route to an Iraqi airfield near the Karbala Gap simply stopped dead in flight, falling harmlessly straight to the ground. According to prominent physicists at the time, this was impossible. Samantha read all about it on Yahoo! News.

A futuristic computer with yellow and blue panels rising tall from a blue paneled base, like something from the original Star Trek series. @evansezwut writes in to clarify that this computer is not the product of some geeky graphic designer’s imagination. It is the Cray X-MP/48 supercomputer, installed at CERN in October 1987. The β€œ48” indicates the computer featured 4 processors and 8 β€œmegawords,” @evansezwut explains. He goes on to expound upon the meaning of β€œmegawords,” mentioning something about eight bit parity and interleaved cycle time, but by then your eyes have glazed over and you’re daydreaming about a zombie outbreak at CERN precipitated by a freak accident with a particle accelerator.

A silhouette of the USS Frank Knox, a destroyer in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1971. The ship was built by Bath Iron Works on the Kennebec River in Maine. Lou’s great uncle claimed that during World War II Bath could build a battleship from soup to nuts in two weeks flat. He’d know, he’d tell little Lou, he was a machinist foreman there during the war. He wasn’t. He was a 3rd shift line chef in the shipyard cafeteria.

A frontal view of the Space Shuttle Atlantis, its payload doors open wide. On one particular mission in 1991, Atlantis launched a gamma ray observatory from orbit. The satellite could detect an unprecedented range of activity on the electromagnetic spectrum, including high energy photon rays, the same kind that would eventually render mankind sterile.
