I have had a lot of rejections this year (A LOT) but I just had the kind of really lovely one that makes you think, "oh, okay, maybe I *can* do this and I *should* keep going." Thanks to the editors who take the time to write those sort of rejections - it's a real kindness.

THEN his wife & kids get eaten by the demon they're allegedly sorting out and at the funeral everyone behaves like *he's* being unreasonable when he loses his temper because they maybe could have done literally anything rather than banging on about cocks crewing for actual days.

THEN when he asks the Doctor and the Occultist what they're going to do about the rapidly spreading plague, they get cross and say: "Look, we're doing important demon-related things that you wouldn't understand, stop being so SELFISH, Friedrich, you dick."

THEN we he FINALLY says to BF & BF's wife: "Could you maybe go home? A lot of bad shit is going down", BF's wife throws a strop and says *he's* the one being a dick.

THEN a contingent of rats goes and munches on his wife and the uniqueness of this experience sends her mad.

THEN he gets called to the dock where his boat has crashed, 90% of his crew are dead, the remaining 10% are puking their organs out and the only cargo left is 5000 plague rats.

THEN his best friend comes back at 3am in an absolute state, wakes up the whole house and joins his wife in all the "He's coming!" yelling.

THEN Friedrich sensibly calls his doctor friend, but instead of offering medical help with the epilepsy, Doc subcontracts his old uni lecture, who just happens to be disgraced occultist.

BUT friend failed to mention these seizures come with premonitions, rending of corsets and her spending half the night screaming "He's coming! He's COMING!"

Just watched Robert Eggers' Noseratu and it's side character Friedrich I feel sorry for.
He agrees to take care of his best friend's wife because said friend is working away in Romania and wife has epilepsy.

Also a lot of reviews complaining that the characters capitulate to Evelyn too easily. She's a cult leader! Cult leaders are often bizarrely, inexplicably charismatic and I think Toni Colette does a great job of that.

There are some things which are not fully explained (e.g. precisely what happens to Evelyn) but there's enough to get the gist unless you haven't been watching. Alex imagines an alternative of what he *could've* done but then decides on something else. It's not hard.

Binge-watched Wayward, really enjoyed it, and once again online reviews have made me despair for people's visual literacy. So many reviews complaining the ending is too ambiguous and...no it's not.

People complain about the Millenial desire for minimalist interiors but it's better than this current trend to decorate every room like the inside of a nuclear submarine.
Do buyers expect everything in battleship grey or what?
