Brown Butter Colcannon There’s not a form of mashed potato that doesn’t speak deeply to me, but this Colcannon with Brown Butter is just on another level. The colcannon itself doesn’t really veer from the traditional Irish ...

I mentioned mash yesterday and, as it happens, #RecipeOfTheDay is a particularly gorgeous form of mashed potatoes: Brown Butter Colcannon! www.nigella.com/recipes/brow...

Night night sweet dreamies 🧡

Maybe not today.
Maybe not tomorrow

But one day you may look back and realise that even the difficult chapters were quietly guiding you somewhere you were meant to be
Sometimes life is unfolding in ways we can’t yet see

Tomorrow is another page

a tan long-haired dachshund with incredibly floofy ears sits with his front paws on a window sill and his nose pressed up against the window. he's accompanied by his stuffed squirrel friend. their reflections stares back at them. Stevie the dachshund does not see the irony in watching for squirrels with his squirrel friend. he's too busy being locked in on the happenings outside his window.

This is Stevie. He's on squirrel watch. His stuffed friend is also a squirrel, but he's one of the good ones. 14/10 (IG: longdogstevie)

a chocolate lab snuggles with a person on a sofa, laying on their lap with one front arm tucked around their legs. his face looks up at the person with enormous eyes, dilated with little rings of golden brown. his ears are back, and the result is one of the most effective begging faces we’ve ever seen. Moose rests on a brown sofa, his chin tucked on a rawhide bone and the flap of one lip squished up by the couch cushion. he has one front paw extended out, and the other tucked into his body like a little chicken wing. he’s looking up a bit, showing a little sliver of the whites of his already-enormous eyes, making them look even bigger under his cutely furrowed eyebrows. the big-eyed brown pup as a puppy. he’s sitting in a white bathtub, slightly damp. he’s mostly in shadow, but his eyes are like two glowing orbs in the center of his face, almost human in their coloring and shape.

This is Moose. He has very big eyes. They are the result of a rare and painless ocular condition. Doesn't seem to mind it. Makes his puppy dog face even more powerful. 13/10 (credit u/aGooseyMoose)

(We know his Disney princess eyes look fake, but we can confirm these photos are not AI generated)

This vibrant woodblock print by the renowned artist Bakufu Ohno (1888–1976) depicts three red sea bream (tai) swimming gracefully among underwater rock formations. In Japanese culture, the red sea bream is a celebrated symbol of good fortune and longevity, often served at weddings and auspicious occasions. The two larger fish occupy the upper and middle sections of the composition, while a smaller one swims near the craggy, lichen-covered rocks at the bottom.

Ohno’s mastery of the shin-hanga style is evident in the delicate color gradations on the fishes' scales, which transition from a deep, rosy red near the fins to a pale, silvery pink along the bellies. Tiny blue speckles adorn their backs, mimicking the natural shimmer of the species. The surrounding water is rendered in a soft, atmospheric cream tone, with delicate white tubular sea anemones or corals emerging from the dark, layered rocks. The artist’s signature and seal are visible in the upper left corner, completing this elegant and serene study of marine life.

Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna) on a visit to Sheffield Botanical Gardens today.

It’s Welsh name is Llygad Ebrill which translates as ‘The Eyes of April’.

Climate change means flowers appear as early as January in Wales. Is a rename due?

At the bottom of the photo a partial view of a pavement with a bench towards the right hand side. Behind it a mass of wild flowers, mostly Kidney Vetch and Ox-eye Daisies. In the background are houses, a few parked cars, and some small trees. There are white clouds in an otherwise blue sky.

Our Wildflower Enhancement Project at Rock Edge has increased populations of important wildflowers such as Field and Small Scabious and vastly increased the resource of nectar and pollen-rich flowers available to insects on this amenity grassland. Link in next post. 🌰🌍 #WildflowerHour

White standing doll facing forwards with blonde hair tied back wearing a dark top and matching trousers

Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899), French painter, obtained a police permit to wear "men's clothes' as expected female fashions were so restrictive. She was so popular that girls were given dolls dressed in trousers to mimic Rosa’s unconventional style #WomensArt #WomensHistoryMonth

The lack of coverage today for the Glasgow fire has been absolutely shocking. A major incident, which burnt down a building hundreds of years old, in the centre of the largest city in Scotland, attached to the busiest train station - a fire lasting *7 hours* has been mostly documented by livesteams.

I've only visited Glasgow in 2024 for Worldcon (a lovely city) and like many (most?) arrived and departed via the central station. So devastating.

We found a really big outcrop of Sarcoscypha coccinea (Scarlet elf cups) in a place I’ve never looked before. There were dozens of them but only a few were accessible, being hidden in deep undergrowth under brambles and nettles.

A wise administration wouldn’t start another war in the Middle East.

A competent administration wouldn’t bomb an elementary school full of children on day 1 of the war they started.

They are neither.

Night night, sweet dreamies 🧡

Surprise yourself with your own courage each day.

Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is simply say goodnight to today and try again tomorrow and that’s perfectly okay.

You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for 🐈
