You have no obligation to defend or explain the behavior of random street protesters. We have a lawless government that is flagrantly violating its legal, moral, even philosophical obligations to us. Everything else is secondary

AOC: Donald Trump is a criminal. He was found guilty of 34 felony counts of fraud, found liable for sexual abuse. If he wants to find the rapists and criminals in this country, he should look in the mirror

This sneering resistance to the judiciary’s intervention was both entirely predictable and profoundly ominous. From the start, the U.S. government’s behavior in this case has been a conscience-shocking breach of both laws and norms that once stood as a firewall to safeguard all of our civil liberties. And it is now spiraling out of control. In a matter of days, Justice Department lawyers and administration officials have burned through basic legal duties in defense of a hideously unlawful scheme that seeks to permanently render innocent people to a black site. They have torched their credibility by violating the most fundamental obligations of candor to a court—not hesitantly, but proudly so, with undisguised disdain toward judges attempting to salvage whatever remains of the rule of law.

The Justice Department spent the weekend defying a federal court, and this morning Trump and his top officials revealed that they will defy the Supreme Court, refusing to take ANY steps to bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back from El Salvador. We have passed the point of crisis: slate.com/news-and-pol...

The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of fuckup imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House.

We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication.

They own what happens next.

Powerful Speeches From Trans Dems Flip 29 Republicans, Anti-Trans Bills Die In Montana Transgender Reps Zooey Zephyr and SJ Howell delivered powerful speeches on the Montana House floor on Thursday. Republicans defected en masse to join them in voting against anti-trans bills.

well this made me cry over breakfast. to any democrats holding even a shred of power right now: look at what’s possible from people far more endangered and vulnerable than you and grow a spine, you fucking cowards www.erininthemorning.com/p/powerful-s...

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

Unelected agents of a oligarch have seized core services of the state without legal sanction or authorization; yes, that's a coup

Well, we knew they would blame the plane crash on DEI, and Trump's sycophants will just nod their heads even though it is a nonsensical claim. I don't know how Republicans live with themselves. I really don't. And frankly, most of those Democrats, too, as they put up no resistance.

It's an excellent time to prioritize research and action aimed at protecting the health of the planet. I've set up a recurring donation to The Union of Concerned Scientists and suggest considering a similar action.

Sally Rooney: When are we going to have the courage to stop the climate crisis? Capitalism is driving the destruction of our planet. We have to think outside – and against – the framework of our current political system

"Because the rich own things, and the poor do not, it is legal for the rich to destroy Earth and illegal for the poor to stop them." 🤌

Cool story, bro. I brought all my camping gear to Italy and even a selection of fine teas. Police confiscated it all, never returned it. Now I travel international with just a carryon.

My Daughter Asks Me to Write an Honest Poem

And when I ask what she means she says a poem
where nothing impossible happens in it, just the truth,
and I say OK and put her in this poem and she sprouts
forty two robin wings down her neck and back and legs
and she says why would you do that, that’s not true
and I say OK I say Sorry and I put an orchard
in her arms, a huge orchard, with rows of pear trees,
and it’s spring and a million white blossoms fur her skin like snow
and she says DAD she says THIS ISN’T REAL and
I say I am sorry my love I didn’t mean to it’s just that
but it’s too late, she’s gone upstairs, I hear her feet
march across the floorboards, soft claps
like a dozen cages closing in a bird shop that specializes
in songless birds, and once more winter settles softly
in my mind, I walk my orchard’s empty rows and remember
how full my arms used to be when my daughter was young,
how busy my hands, my sad, empty hands
reaching for this liar’s pen.

one of two new poems in @ex-puritan.bsky.social today among so many, many friends!

"...she says a poem
where nothing impossible happens in it, just the truth,
and I say OK and put her in this poem and she sprouts
forty two robin wings down her neck and back and legs..."
