#HNY2026 #HappyNewYear
While we never wish for destruction in our lives, new life can take root in the ashes. May your 2026 be filled with many chances to flourish, even when it may seem impossible. #HNY #HappyNewYear #CampbellRiver #VancouverIsland
Happy New Year 2026 - as 2025 comes to an end, let's look to this tiny tree for a lesson in persistence. The large stump washed ashore. Weathered by the years, sitting at the high tide line, someone decided to set fire to it. And yet - here is a tiny sapling that has taken root and flourished.
the many aspects of Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ (Discovery) Passage , Campbell River British Columbia. I never tire of the view. #VanIsle #VancouverIsland #seascape
I remember when it came out and the reels of film came to my tiny town to be screened at our Rec Hall in Ucluelet.
I am rarely here Johannah - congratulations on this milestone, and progress to your goals. Happiest of New Years to you!
boring colours and boring structure too
thanks for the recommendation - on hold at my local library based on this!
Thank you so much to @bulbculture.bsky.social for putting this piece of mine back out in the world (originally published by Reflex Fiction) ❤️

hello Bulb Culture! Happy festive season to you. I am rarely here, and thankful to see a submission window.
thanks for commenting Donovan - I'm not here on Bsky much even though I've had an account for two years. Still mourn Twitter. Most people don't repost/share or comment. At least in my experience. Happy writing. Many defunct magazines this year.
and it's everywhere - not just in Vancouver and Victoria. Same here in Campbell River. The new "Re-Imagine the Row" will see rental above commercial in a block that was demolished. Who will be able to afford the new commercial rents?
on the news, from Duotrope, that one of my favourite little #litmags is defunct - I'd like to send a shout-out to editors and readers who work hard to bring our words to the world. Your efforts do not go unnoticed. Thank you! #WritingCommunity #PoetryCommunity #litmags
I remember that - thanks for clarifying Robert, I was just about to ask. So, installed in 1981 - only the second roof replacement in 40+ years.
The @adroitjournal.bsky.social is open for free submissions of fiction, CNF, and poetry, why not give them a try?

valuable tips for submitting. Thanks Janelle.
I am feeling this right now - months of rejections have piled up. It's definitely feeling like a slog. But, we persist.
hope the heat dome subsides soon for you Mark - this is our reality often in the summer on the east coast of Vancouver Island.
thanks Robin - I haven't been here much. I did find it. I appreciate all your efforts.
thank you Robin - and, I wonder - did I miss a June update?
welcome to Bsky!
flamenco and poetry - Vancouver, you don't want to miss this. #dance
that makes sense
you are most welcome - sorry I missed this earlier.
exactly
they didn't join WWI right away either!
I think one asks for 3 months before sharing, the other 6 months. I was ok with that as a newbie poet. Now, 6 months seems long to me.
they even had a contract, and when I questioned them, they said they had been advised to proceed in this fashion. Not worth it, in my opinion. If it was a top-tier litmag then I'd consider but not a new magazine. There are several small print magazines/anthologies who have been very good to me...
that is also where I tend to land. One newer magazine wanted a year. Nope.
there's a newer one that wanted a year. No way. I understand 3 months for a smaller print magazine since they want to drive sales.
