(The spider in question is what's called around here a Halloween spider. It's a bright orange orb-weaver with black-and-white-striped legs. It looks like it's wearing wicked witch stockings on its tiny* legs.)

Then I discovered that an orb-weaver spider had built its web across the porch door. Big spider, big web - it reached from the eaves to my armpits, covering my face and head. Luckily, the spider wasn't in that part of the web, but I am still brushing off tickles of silk. Erg.
