#Booksky So…we were hoping to see Melissa Scott’s terrific gay fantasy novel, POINT OF HEARTS (Astreiant #6) on the Locus Recommended Reading List, but alas, it is not. But if you read and loved it, you can write it in when you vote! It really is that good!

Book cover for The Autarch's Heir, by Jo Graham: two woman, one dark-haired, one blond, stand behind an elegant dark man in a dark suit. A golden crown hovers in the background above a cloudy seascape. Text: The Autarch's Heir, Jo Graham. It sounds like a simple job to con man Bel Alan: pretend to be the natural son of the assassinated Calpurnian autarch Iulus and steal the priceless Solaste Crown. But his simple theft may be about to plunge Lono into a bloody civil war, and finding the Blameless Prince to wear the crown may be the only way to stop it. What's a con man to do when the stakes of his game are suddenly the fate of a world?

The Autarch's Heir, book 4 of Jo Graham's space adventure series The Calpurnian Wars, is now available for preorder! Link is to Amazon, but it's up at all the usual suspects.

The Postures of Pike ⚔️

Pikemen were the backbone of armies in the English Civil Wars. While the role of pikemen was to offer protection to musketeers against cavalry, they were just as effective at driving enemy pikemen from the battlefield.

I had read that! That ancestor's wife was also an "ironmaster," as he was, so I couldn't help wondering if maybe he was somewhat used to dealing with women in the business? Also, so cool that you were married on the bridge!

(1) Got a job making cables for the Brooklyn Bridge.
(2) Not sure, but he was later excommunicated by an otherwise calm bunch of Lutherans, so we have concerns.

My mother's cat used to do that. If it was raining when he started out the back door, he'd balk, come back in, and demand she open the front door. Sadly, it was always raining there too.

We had snow overnight, and now the cat is running from window to window trying to find one that doesn't look out onto a winter hellscape. He then runs over to berate me for my failings.

Honestly, I sympathize.

I also had a (much less) dehydrated cat, and now he gets moist food with extra sauce and his water dish lives in the bathtub to deal with the spillage. Much sympathy all around!

Please spread the word! Pandemonium Books and I have decided we really have to reschedule the book launch party that was to be this Sunday bc of the threat of serious snow. Thankfully they have an opening next week. So it'll be Friday, Jan 30th instead!
