This is sickening.
25.05.2025 06:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Her sweet boy was looking for pets in the way she taught him to, and she got mad about it. How frustrating that must be! I often hear pet parents say in exasperation, "He knows he's not allowed up there!" when that really isn't the case at all. They have sent him mixed signals.
22.05.2025 19:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0When she did that, she just made her own job so much harder. Let's fast forward to next time.
So let's say that cute cat gets app on the counter again and she is feeling less patient than she was last time. She gets upset with him and shoos him off. This only confuses the cat and causes distress.
"Hey, you aren't supposed to be up there! Oh, but you're so cute." and then she starts petting him and cooing at him affectionately.
She just told him something. What did she communicate?
She reinforced that the counter is where you go if you want affection from her.
I mean, it's not like they have any instinctual or learned knowledge from their parents that countertops are off limits. That's where it's our job as the humans who adopted them to communicate our expecting to them effectively, right?
So this owner watches him get up on the counter and says....
I saw a video yesterday of a person having a very cute conversation with her very handsome cat. He was standing up in a chair against the backrest. THEN things went sideways.
He got up on the counter. Ok, cats are going to try things like that.
June's pet-sitting schedule is starting to fill up, so if you have any trips planned, make sure you reach out soon!

Want to get rid of that unwanted behavior? Don't punish your pet!
Instead, gently redirect them to something you want them to do instead.
Punishment doesn't work, and sometimes even serves to reinforce the exact thing you're trying to get away from!
Cats need mental stimulation, and most will choose to be more active in the evening. Make sure to keep toys around, and yes, the occasional crinkle wrapper ๐ฅฐ

Chihuahuas get a bad wrap because they often don't get the same level of instruction and patience from their humans because there is a perception that they can't do as much damage. They are just doing the best they can with what they know. People often don't train extra small dogs - but they should.

Yanking a leash can harm a dog's esophagus or vocal chords and is the least effective way to teach them to do what you want. What it does teach them is that you inflict pain for what probably seems like no reason to them.
If you make training enjoyable, it goes SO much smoother.
Dog walking tip!
If your pup is exhibiting unwanted behavior, avoid yanking on their leash.
Instead, use positive reinforcement (training treats, happy/excited voice, affection) to gently guide them toward what you want them to do.

06.02.2025 20:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Use a calming app to help train your pup to relax. When you have soft music/sound playing when you are relaxing (and your pup is around to hear it), they will learn that sound means itโs time to rest. Then, when you want your pup to rest, turn it on and your dog will naturally settle. #dogtraining
