Do you remember the feeling of watching K-On!, or Love Live? The joy of watching a group of friends create something truly magical. You smile.

I want to capture that feeling.

So, I'm writing something that will make me smile wide - an all Black girl string quartet.

Follow along my journey.

I'm changing my genre. For now.

Because a slice of life, non fantasy story is, so far, one of the only stories that I wrote for me. No expectations. No dreams of being perfect, of writing something to launch my author career.

It's fully, 100% for me.

Not perfect.

Me.

Sometimes, you just need to have someone put things in perspective. I wanted to give up on my book until my mom gave me hard truths to swallow.

And, I learned that I like stories to forever live in my head and not actually put them down in a structured outline. It's a problem.

I think I forgot that writing is supposed to be fun.

After chatting with y'all, with being so reflective of myself as I struggled the day after that…there was a comment that stuck with me and made me pause. I…I'm not having fun. Instead, I'm trying to be perfect.

That is true! These tropes did start as a way of control, of making us feel bad for our emotions, to assign us the blame, and to tell us how we should be. Maybe I shouldn't care.

Do you ever worry about writing in harmful black stereotypes in your characters?

She can't be too popular because it gives Jezebel, she can't be too rebellious because it gives Sapphire. Am I just reinforcing these tropes?

Plotting the end of your novel sucks.

I decided to sit down and come up with a solid plot for my novel - specifically, the ending.

I couldn't do it. Because coming up with an ending felt like me already parting ways with my main character.

...this will be a problem.

I rarely admit that I'm a Christian Fantasy Writer, because when I think of the genre, I think super white. And two - just the negative connotation of being Christian.
