Picture of a page from a cookbook: PAT NIXON'S AVOCADO SALAD 2 medium avocados 1 package lemon-flavored gelatin 1½ cups hot water 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1 can No. 2½ grapefruit sections, drained ½ cup chopped celery Whipped cream and mayonnaise, mixed Mash avocados. Stir into slightly thickened lemon gelatin base made with lemon-flavored gelatin, hot water, and lemon juice. Stir in grapefruit sections and chopped celery. Chill and unmold. Serve with a whipped cream and mayonnaise mixture. Serves 8 to 10. Vegetables in general do not thrill the President. But here is one vegetable recipe he relishes:
Picture of a de-molded bowl of this horrible salad atop a saucer. It is an Incredible Hulk green color with a slice or reddish orange grapefruit protruding on the side and it is topped with a white creamy mixture.
A quarter of the horror in a bowl with a spoon before eating. Grapefruit chunks are more visible in the cross section and the bowl is smeared with more of the whipped cream/mayo mixture because it was the same bowl used to mix it up and wasn’t worth messing up a new one in my opinion.
So my roommate somehow found this abomination of a recipe that Richard Nixon purportedly enjoyed eating and had become obsessed with making it.
Last night he did. Tonight we tried it. Thankfully he erred on the side of sanity and only made a half batch.
It was… challenging. Not recommended. 💀
