And here is video on the Memrise competition that resulted in the paper above. It was such an interesting experience to have been part of this industrial collaboration: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnS8...

It was great to meet you in person too. Thanks for your summary of your talk. I'm sad I'm missing it tomorrow, but it'll be so useful and I'll catch up on the recording. Have a good time in Glasgow.
18.09.2025 21:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had a great session with the associates of the MΓΈller Institute at University of Cambridge. There was full engagement from the audience with many questions that led to insightful discussions. Can't wait to see how they will apply the science of learning to their various contexts and programmes.
08.09.2025 12:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm trialling a new work schedule: I'll be working compressed hours in September, i.e. an hour longer Mon-Thu, and half-day on Fridays. Let's see how it goes. If you have any experience with this kind of work schedule, please share. What are common pitfalls/benefits & how well does it work for you?
01.09.2025 10:33 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0This is particularly exciting because I actually studied business administration as a minor at the University of Mannheim and I cannot wait to re-immerse myself with aspects of organisational psychology and combining it with the science of learning.
29.08.2025 09:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Delighted to be delivering the 'Best Practice in Adult Learning' session at the Associate Development Day for the MΓΈller Institute (University of Cambridge). Looking forward to applying the science of learning to knowledge/skills acquisition in leadership training. www.mollerinstitute.com
29.08.2025 09:09 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1We delivered a symposium on "Cognitive and motivational individual differences in the effectiveness of desirable difficulties" at #earli2025 - highlighting effort belief, goal orientation, and prior knowledge as important factors. When you are the symposium discussant (but also a learning scientist and enthusiastic about practicing what you preach) you must start your discussion with a quiz to engage the audience in some good old retrieval practice of the talks they just heard.

It's not recorded unfortunately.

26.06.2025 18:49 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Today was our inaugural Level 2 Psychology Lab Development Day. As a team we generated ideas on how to improve teaching in the next academic year. I cannot be prouder of this engaged teaching team (and yes, we have a Level 2 Psychology cat mascot, Parzivel).

Last year I was on the verge of burning out. This year I delivered a plenary at the IATEFL conference. The moment I stepped on that stage I knew this was special, this was what I love doing: communicate the science of learning to a large audience. The article captures my academic identity very well.
