PAPER PUBLISHED: I worked on this project during my postdoc at WashU St. Louis in 2014. Our lab contributed to this Memrise competition to test the best way to study foreign vocabulary and we were one of the finalists. Kudos to Rosalind Potts for leading on this.

It was great to meet you in person too. Thanks for your summary of your talk. I'm sad I'm missing it tomorrow, but it'll be so useful and I'll catch up on the recording. Have a good time in Glasgow.

Had a great session with the associates of the MΓΈller Institute at University of Cambridge. There was full engagement from the audience with many questions that led to insightful discussions. Can't wait to see how they will apply the science of learning to their various contexts and programmes.

I'm trialling a new work schedule: I'll be working compressed hours in September, i.e. an hour longer Mon-Thu, and half-day on Fridays. Let's see how it goes. If you have any experience with this kind of work schedule, please share. What are common pitfalls/benefits & how well does it work for you?

This is particularly exciting because I actually studied business administration as a minor at the University of Mannheim and I cannot wait to re-immerse myself with aspects of organisational psychology and combining it with the science of learning.

When you are the symposium discussant (but also a learning scientist and enthusiastic about practicing what you preach) you must start your discussion with a quiz to engage the audience in some good old retrieval practice of the talks they just heard.

The moment I stepped on that stage I knew this was special, this was what I love doing: communicate the science of learning to a large audience. The article captures my academic identity very well.

Service learning: Applying knowledge through community service My academic identity revolves around applying research-informed learning strategies from Cognitive Psychology to authentic educational contexts and disseminating this knowledge to a broader audience through science communication and outreach activities. A continuation of this work is to enable students to apply what they have learned at university to address problems in the community. The following case study outlines Service Learning as a teaching concept. Service Learning is a teaching approach by which knowledge obtained in the classroom is made available to a cooperation partner in the community to solve a prevailing need. In my case, university students acquire knowledge of effective learning strategies and then design and deliver research-informed β€˜How-To-Study’ tutorials to pupils in local schools. Since I started teaching Service Learning in 2008, I have collaborated with 15 schools (9 schools in and around Glasgow, 4 schools in and around Dundee, and 2 schools in Mannheim, Germany) from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds. My commitment to support students to meaningfully apply knowledge through community service has been commended by the BPS accreditation review committee (2019, University of Dundee) as β€˜extraordinary practice that stands out on a national and international level’. I was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award by the School of Social Sciences for it, and it was recognised as a case study for my successful SFHEA AdvanceHE application in the same year.

New article published: "Service Learning: Applying Knowledge Through Community Service". An overview of my Service Learning module where students learn about effective learning strategies and deliver 'How To Study' tutorials to pupils in local schools in Glasgow.
