As a British born fella there is a very British word much too prominent in this new trendy term. Please no.

MAGA Rage at β€œNo Kings” Boils Overβ€”and It Quickly Backfires on Trump As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americansβ€”and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

If Republicans are going to label you a terrorist for peacefully protesting Trump's failing presidency, abuses of power, and treatment of blue America as an enemy nation, let's turn out in even bigger numbers.

On the pod, @jilldlawrence.bsky.social and me on this:

On October 18th, millions of brave Americans will stand up and peacefully protest against the authoritarian disease metastasizing under Donald Trump.

It was more complicated than that. There are shelves and shelves of excellent history on the β€œtwisted road to Auschwitz”.

Eg on just one fairly small issue (in comparison to the rest of this history), have a look at how the Nazis struggled with the Q of what to do with the Jewish veterans of WW1.

I would add that I enjoy alternative explanations, but I’m skeptical of mono-causal explanations of any election, especially American elections. The truth is every election result is the product of a complex interaction of factors that delivers a multi-coloured collage of interests and motivations.

We cannot fight the far right until we acknowledge that the spread of ideas and beliefs is what drives voter behavior and other political decisions, and that we have created an information environment that is extraordinarily favorable to the far right

I was on the β€œguess it was surely inflation” bandwagon in November last year, but I had worried before the election about the immersion in propaganda that looked even worse than 2020. This here is a compelling argument and one I am inclined to believe - but I’d like more research.

Uhh because Trump inherited an absolute Goldilocks of an economy and is being a total maniac with it.

β€œHuh this stunning Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, driven by a drunk lunatic, is both performing beautifully and incredibly stressful to watch, why is that?”

quite a take from someone who called COVID restrictions "fascism" and "a violation of constitutional rights," and argued that SEC penalties for announcing a fake leveraged buyout of Tesla trampled on his first amendment free speech protections

Reminder that the author of this shitty article wrote in the Atlantic (later corrected) that the pastor at Meghan Markle’s wedding was Desmond Tutu β€” because she can’t tell the difference between an extremely elderly and world famous South African black Bishop and a middle-aged American black bishop

Federal Judges, Warning of β€˜Judicial Crisis,’ Fault Supreme Court’s Emergency Orders

β€œMore than three dozen federal judges have told The New York Times that the Supreme Court’s flurry of brief, opaque emergency orders in cases related to the Trump administration have left them confused about how to proceed in those matters and are hurting the judiciary’s image with the public.”
