Campaigners against the immigration removal centre at Campsfield House, which reopened today, protested in Kidlington and Oxford. Fifty people gathered at Carfax in what organisers described as “a sombre event, a kind of vigil”.

They are one of six prisoners on hunger strike at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey. Supporters say “Their visits have been restricted, phone cut off, put into solitary confinement for arbitrary reasons… Amu was also forcibly taken off their craft job for embroidering Free Palestine on a cushion.”

A 30-year old Oxford resident, imprisoned for taking part in the Palestine Action paint attack at RAF Brize Norton, is entering the fifth week of their hunger strike. Amu Gib is protesting against “the victimisation faced by prisoners accused of taking direct action” for the Palestinian cause.

Owen Jones really took no prisoners here, did he. I take no joy in the shambles and chaos, even if it ultimately drives more people to the Greens. I so want this country to have a strong, left wing movement, and was hoping we can have two of those. But maybe one is all we can get, and all it needs.

Residents in Haddenham and Thame are calling on authorities to end a 25 year wait for a greenway (walking & cycling route) between the two communities. A petition with over 4000 signatures has been submitted to Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire County Councils.

Choices: a 1h car journey or a 2h11 minute 2 buses journey that includes 42 minutes of walking. Oxford's public transport connection to surrounding towns and villages is not great.
